EDITORIAL: Obama goes for easy points on energy
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 8/6/8 | Editor

Sen. Barack Obama's energy policy is offering more flip flops than a Lake Tahoe souvenir stand.

First the presumptive Democratic nominee opposes offshore oil drilling, but, wait, now he doesn't. Second, he never suggested dipping into national petroleum reserves, and now he wants to open the spigot.

And remember how he hooted at suspending federal gas taxes as a primary-season stunt? Now, he wants $1,000 rebate checks mailed out to families, paid by a windfall profits tax on the oil industry that was tried and dumped in the 1980s.

The crushing power of $4-a-gallon gas lies behind these changes along with polls showing his modest lead is dwindling. Other polls, showing a slim majority of the country now favors coastal drilling, have made it easier to switch positions with little pain.

What exactly is wrong with switching positions on drilling? Wouldn’t it be really stupid, not to?

someone is lying...

if voting for drilling is going for easy points how can this be true?

Reid says majority of Dems opposes more drilling

http://thehill.com/leading-the-news/reid-says-majority-of-dems-opposes-more-drilling-2008-07-15.html

Reid estimated that as many as 80 percent of Democrats, and maybe more, would vote against any offshore drilling proposal.

This incompetent, dangerous, liberal POS is worse than Kerry when it comes to redefining himself on a daily basis. Pure BS, typical limosine liberal, typical radical socialist empty-suit.

That may be so, but it doesn’t have much to do with changing position on drilling.

My thoughts exactly...if Obama loses by that margin, I doubt he would call it a “slim loss”...

We really won’t know that about anyone, until after it happens.

I believe all politicians say what they think is necessary to get elected. It would be really dumb not to.

you’d think it would be nice having this type of paper call obama to the carpet. but all they are doing is trying to move his positions back to just left of socialist on the political scale.

When a candidate comes along that I can believe in, I will. I don’t believe in either this year, so, lile last election, I doubt I’ll vote. I believe that God already knows who is going to win, so I’ll go with what He decides.

150 MILES PER GALLON

OBAMA'S 10 YEAR PLAN

From an electric plugin hybrid that Obama says "I will direct it to be available within 10 years"?

"No nuclear, coal, or offshore, ANWAR, foreign oil!

Fill 'er up with a gallon of Solar/Wind stuff!"

Obama pledged direct financial support for Michigan's bedrock auto industry and urged changes in the way the country creates and consumes energy.

He called for $4 billion in guaranteed loans and tax credits to help U.S. automakers retool for more fuel-efficient cars and to develop batteries for plug-in hybrids that get up to 150 m.p.g. The new breed of automobiles would fetch a $7,000 federal tax credit for buyers.

..Obama said the auto industry would benefit from his $150-billion, 10-year plan to develop alternative energy sources, including fuel cells to power vehicles.

"I know how much the auto industry and the autoworkers of this state have struggled over the last decade or so," Obama told about 1,000 supporters at the Lansing Center who sang him "Happy Birthday" on his 47th. "But I also know where I want the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow to be built -- not in Japan, not in China, but right here in the United States of America. Right here in the state of Michigan."

Obama also called again for an immediate $1,000 "energy rebate" to U.S. families, paid for with higher taxes on oil company profits.

Nan told her Dems in close campaigns to go for drilling! More hypocrisy on the Left. Then too, McCain has actually called for 45 more nuclear plants, oil drilling domestically, coal shale and coal mining et al. That is energy. Not inflating tires.
