Butterfield (D)...I tried to sign the guestbook on his homepage...left a message that he should be in Washington working with the republicans to reach a vote on drilling...clicked submit and find that all responses are monitored before being posted. Guess I won't be seeing my message...

Via Politico, we have an excellent montage of quotes and comments to help us better understand why there will be no energy legislation before the next Congress is sworn in...and a clearer picture of the depths of hell Democrats are willing to drag us through in order to expand their power in Washington:
But what looks like intraparty tension on the surface is part of an intentional strategy in which Pelosi takes the heat on energy policy, while behind the scenes she’s encouraging vulnerable Democrats to express their independence if it helps them politically, according to Democratic aides on and off Capitol Hill.
Pelosi’s gambit rests on one big assumption: that Democrats will own Washington after the election and will be able to craft a sweeping energy policy that is heavy on conservation and fuel alternatives while allowing for some new oil drilling. Democrats see no need to make major concessions on energy policy with a party poised to lose seats in both chambers in just three months — even if recess-averse Republicans continue to pound away on the issue.
I like Lipton, but I do have some real cheap and stinky smelling teas that I tried. Maybe I’ll send one of those to a bunch of democraps in Washington. It will be worth the postage if tons of bags get deposited on the Capital steps.

Ok, so I misunderstood. I thought that what ya’ll were doing was trying to get the “lights back on” so to speak and I also thought it was up to Bush to make it happen. When he said no, I wondered if it was a done deal. I’ll go hunt down the petition and sign it.

I think John McCain needs to ask every American family who heats their homes with oil to figure out right now how much it will cost them for their next full tank of heating oil. And to thank Nancy Pelosi while they are doing it. That should shake things up a bit.
No doubt Joe Kennedy will order oil from Caesar for all of them to last the winter and pay for it out of his own deep pocket.
My heart goes out to everyone who is going to struggle with this. I fear we’re going to have a lot of unnecessary deaths and unnecessary suffering this winter, which Nancy will blame on George Bush.
