JetBlue now charging for pillows on planes Mon Aug 4, 2008 12:21pm EDT
NEW YORK (Reuters) - JetBlue Airways Corp, which made its name providing free television and leather seats on its flights, started charging passengers for pillows on Monday, marking the latest attempt by struggling airlines to claw back some of the cost of soaring fuel prices.
The U.S. No. 7 carrier said it will no longer provide pillows, but passengers on flights longer than two hours can buy a pillow and blanket kit for $7, which the airline is touting as healthy and eco-friendly.

What’s next, charging you if your seat has a seat cushion?
At least buses don't pull away from the terminal, drive to the parking lot and lock you in for a couple of hours waiting to get on the road.
Passengers dying on the flight will be reclassified as excess luggage and their next-of-kin will have to pay the $50 luggage fee to claim them.
If they want to REWARD people for not bringing the standard allotment of luggage by offering a small rebate at the counter, that is fine. Yes, the accounting is the same at the end, but there is a reason why some retailers, for example, offer a discount for paying with cash or debit, rather than leveling a charge for using checks or credit (the latter carrying overhead). NOBODY likes extra fees upon supposedly completing a transaction. Discounts and rebates, on the other hand, are always welcome.
When are they going to finally get rid of the stupid snacks and the couple ounces of soft drink that they serve during the flight?
You want a snack on the plane? Stop at one of the dozens of shops near your terminal and buy what you want. Thirsty? Get a bottle of your favorite drink there and take with.
But no, they have to go through that whole song-and-dance to give you some crummy trail mix and barely enough drink to wet your mouth. On a 2 hour flight, no less.
Actually they’ve picked up a number of Brazilian-built Embraer 170 and 190 jets as well. So they’re not exclusively Airbus anymore, but they still don’t fly any Boeings.

"Here I sit, broken hearted. Paid ten bucks and only ..."
“There is NOTHING in our Constitution that says everyone has the right to cheap airline flights. If they cannot afford a ticket... take the bus...”
Oh I thought it was right under the part that guaranteed you the right to a free pillow and blanket on an economy air-line.
Lowest cost provider was doing just fine until fuel went through the roof, the problem is salaries have not caught up to gas when and *if* that happens they low cost carriers will dominate again.
The sentiment that the pitiful masses should be busing it just so folks can again enjoy hot towels, warm meals, and in-flight movies, flys in the face of letting the market decide does it not?
next will be a mandatory preflight enema to cut unnecessary passenger weight by eliminating those 5 to 25 lbs. of waste trapped to the colon walls like spackle or paste. Just think of the fuel savings!
umm you could just fly first class...
At the end of the flight or the end of the month?
Why don’t they allow airline sponsored gambling once the plane takes off. Seems like it would be a fun and profitable way to pick up some additional revenue rather than charging for simple amenities.
I think you are wrong. Isn't most airliners losing money year after year? It is a losing business model and sooner than later... USA is going to have to bail them out... again
Most does not mean bargain carriers..
Southwest made a killing until their fuel contracts ran out, in the same way Jet blue makes money (they are hurting now but who is not)
