"How dare you send our citizens back to us"

You can add legislators from the Mexican state of Sonora to the people whose sense of irony has been surgically removed at birth. It didn't make very big news when it happened (two weeks ago), but for those who missed it, it's a worthy showcase for chutzpah at its finest. And it's a tragic indication of just how absurdly pathetic our neighbor to the south really is:
A delegation of nine state legislators from Sonora was in Tucson on Tuesday to say Arizona's new employer sanctions law will have a devastating effect on the Mexican state.
At a news conference, the legislators said Sonora - Arizona's southern neighbor, made up of mostly small towns - cannot handle the demand for housing, jobs and schools it will face as illegal Mexican workers here return to their hometowns without jobs or money.
What? They are returning to their hometowns, for goodness' sake. They don't want people to return to their hometowns? People aren't welcome in their hometowns?
Oh, and they're coming home broke. What are we in America to do, send out an announcement that people planning to self-deport should stop by city hall for a little care package on the way out? Maybe a little taxpayer money to tide them over until the ever-so vibrant and healthy Mexican economy finds them jobs. Oh no, wait...nevermind.
And it gets worse, with this stunning admission:
"Mexico is not prepared for this, for the tremendous problems" it will face as more and more Mexicans working in Arizona and sending money to their families return to hometowns in Sonora without jobs, she said. (emphasis added)
Think about that. Not only...

We are basically providing a safety valve to keep mexico from exploding.
And yet, with all this we still get a LARGE number of illegal immigrants from Mexico, and the Mexican government says they can't take them back without risking a civil war.
If Mexico is a threat, we need a buffer state. Let’s make one out of Chihuahua and Sonora. Throw in Baja California too for good measure.

Amparano (Noglez rep) said the Mexican legislators are already asking the federal government of Mexico for help for Sonora.

Hidalgo is a word to describe the european immigrants who actually run Mexico, and to hell with the mestizos and indios.
Unfortunately, a "buffer state" wouldn't be enough: We need a true cordon sanitaire. Further, one could also regard Mexico as a staging area for Illegals from Central America.

Not to go on too much of a tangent, but by historic human standards, Mexico is probably in the top 10% of countries.
We look at it from an American perspective, but for the vast majority of humans who have ever lived, life in Mexico actually looks pretty good.
Are they saying the Mexican government is giving free bus rides to the border, and encouraging it's citizens to violate the law of another country, exploit it's economy and send the proceeds home?
That is an act of war.
From the viewpoint of American do-gooders, every hell hole on earth is viewed from the American perspective. The simple concept that in order to help others, one must first be healthy, both financially and physically, escapes them. Spreading the misery and bringing everyone else down kills the golden goose, so to speak; sooner or later.
The other reality is that in order to actually improve the universal picture, the "helpers" need to outnumber the "helpees", or the system collapses.
Can the US of A save the world? No.
Can we do anything? Of course. But we do it on our own terms or not at all.
If we even contemplate having the "government" of Mexico, or even more pathetically, of Sonora dictate our foreigh policy and our welfare state, the American angry domestic mood will boil over. And there is enough of a historical trail to document the simple fact that this isn't merely a cultural excuse to eliminate the less fortunate or the "undesireables." The criminal culture in Mexico is very real, from the top down, and so is the threat of its importation.
Americans may be the most charitable people on earth, but there is a limit to everything, as we are constantly reminded.
Build the damned fence, already!

Since 10% of Mexico is here, they must have preferred what they read in the letters with the money sent home.
