Washington, Aug 3 - House Republicans will be back on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives again Monday to continue the unprecedented protest that began last Friday, when dozens of Republicans joined hundreds of American citizens on the House floor to protest Speaker Nancy Pelosis (D-CA) decision to send Congress home for the rest of the summer without a vote on legislation to lower gas prices and move America toward energy independence.
In an urgent memo sent to GOP Members and staff Saturday (A Call to Action on American Energy), Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Whip Roy Blunt (R-MO) hailed Fridays action, which was led by Reps. Mike Pence (R-IN), Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), Tom Price (R-GA), and others, and encouraged House Republicans to return to the Capitol beginning Monday morning to help keep the historic effort going.
Its not a request we make lightly. But the American people are suffering, Boehner and Blunt said in the memo. The consequences of continued congressional inaction on gas prices are unacceptable. Weve called on the Speaker to call Congress back into an emergency session this month and schedule a vote on the American Energy Act. We must continue to make a stand until the Speaker complies.
We realize not everyone can be in Washington next week. But if you can be, we ask that you come to the Capitol, join our colleagues, and lend your voice, beginning this Monday at 10:00 am, the GOP leaders wrote. If you cant be in Washington, we ask that you contribute to the cause in other ways such as spreading the word among your constituents, writing an op-ed for your local newspaper, or taking our all of the above energy message to your local airwaves.
Republicans stand with the American people. We share their passion and determination for energy independence, and weve pledged to fight boldly until Congress heeds their will, Boehner and Blunt concluded.
Yes, that’s exactly what the democrats are doing.
The fact of the matter is there were only 5 members to start with, as the word got out more joined, there were eventually 50 members who came back, some carrying luggage and wearing shorts, members who cut their vacations short to join their fellow representatives on the floor of a dead house. Yeah, you can extrapolate all you want but the fact is, this was spontaneous. Call your rep, call the leader, call the whip, call the President, ask for an emergency session, but of course whiners like you don’t call they just bitch!
Agreed...somebody with a little clout needs to force the MSM to address this. Even the Dems don’t like the high gas prices.
Have you had a chance to listen to the recording of what took place?
I’m not “whining” by any definition of the word. I’m merely pointing out that this was superb political theater.
Freepers at Walter Reed Friday night heard that Pelosi told the Capitol police to physically remove the congressman if they don’t leave. They stayed a little beyond Queen Pelosi’s deadline. It will be interesting what will happen Monday.
[Mr] T
I lack both the hardware and software to make use of youtube. My own suspicion is that Pelosi knew something was up and decided to shut down the House to avoid it. In doing so, she completely misunderestimated the role of the New Media.
My understanding from posts Friday Rush Limbaugh mention the Republicans on the floor but with much detail. It maybe helpful if he is respectfully informed of Monday’s event. His email address ElRushbo@eibnet.com.
Das Fuhrer Pelosi!
keep me posted!!!
;-)
GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR YOUR WORK!!!
YOU HUMBLE US ALL!
I don't have that much faith in his domestic political skills, he has pretty much left conservatives high and dry.
The Reps leading the charge on this are the real leaders of the GOP, Bush has given up that role a long time ago.
These guys are filling a vacuum.
Sorry you didn’t hear it :( I guess in print it’s hard to get the sense of it- but they were HOLLERING and SHOUTING..and it didn’t stop..it was ...not like anything I’ve seen or heard before in the House.
I also think Pslosi knew something was up- my rep’s office told me she was determined no vote would be allowed.
Been looking for that ... thank you !

The impact of ‘Twittering’ was very amazing. Direct communication to the people of America, from a darkened, silent (to the world) House of Representatives .. OUR HOUSE!
