Presidential vote could help Dems get 'magic' Senate majority
CNN ^ | Aug. 2, 2008 | Rick DiBella

The battle for the Senate has been overshadowed by the presidential race, but just as important as who will reside in the White House is whether Democrats can get 60 seats in the Senate.

The "Magic 60" would give Democrats a filibuster-proof majority, and the keys to true power in the Senate. Assuming that their party leaders could keep Democratic senators in line, 60 votes would mean a fast track for their agenda, prevent Republicans from blocking it and a clear path for their nominations for the federal bench.

But if the STUPID party can capitalize on the energy issue, they could possibly help make the impossible occur. However, it requires a set of onions - something frequently lacking about the GOP in the Congress.

God helps us if they do.

Playing devil’s advocate for a moment.

I say this could be a good thing for two reasons.

1) It would teach RINOs that they need to act like conservatives or they will lose their jobs.
2) The liberal agendas that would pass would all but completely destroy the economy and would show the voters how stupid those big government ideas really are. When people are waiting 7 months to get an MRI, they will think twice about universal health care.

This writer is obviously at least two weeks behind in his data. I hope the left-wing press continues in their myopathy. It will make is easier for the GOP to pull a surprise in November.

Al Franken will NOT be elected to the US Senate from Minnesota!

If the Dem’s can appoint judges without opposition for a couple of years, there is no “takeover” possible for decades to come. Once the judicial branch of gov’t is locked up by one party, it becomes a branch of the party and faces no threat because there are no elections in that branch. The judges could all be staunch Marxists (and that won’t be far from the truth) and they would be entrenched for life. Nothing done in the Senate or House or by future Presidents would matter much. A single judge could always delay and essentially decide the law.

This is much more serious than it may first appear. Lose this election and you lose representation in the federal government. You lose representation, THE fundamental characteristic of representative government. GONE.

In other news, V. Putin is no longer in charge in Russia. He might feel right at home here in the post-election USA.

If it does happen that the Dems get the whole enchilada, there will be no great conservative enlightenment. They will see to it that it becomes impossible for the people to ever wrench power from them by any means other than force. The USA will be completely and totally gone.

What really needs to happen is for the GOP to get legal action started NOW that will force the states to count the military vote from overseas, or to put controls and procedures in place that will ensure all soldiers voting overseas will have absolutely no problem meeting the state guidelines as they exist. Had that been done the Dems wouldn’t have won several Senate seats, and we’d be looking at a completely different political spectrum.

the rinos have lost before and not learned that lesson

2) The liberal agendas that would pass would all but completely destroy the economy and would show the voters how stupid those big government ideas really are. When people are waiting 7 months to get an MRI, they will think twice about universal health care.

the problem here is that once healthcare has been seized by the government, it can never be placed back in the private sector - and all medical advancements will end

i doubt our economy could survive the expense the libtards would "invest" - we came close to a meltdown a few weeks back when the feds had to call everyone on the planet to show up at the fannie mae auction to buy their paper

i suspect we are nearing our credit limit with the world - and doubt we could survive 4 years with democrat control of the white house and congress

I completely disagree.

1)Any RINOs that are kicked out of office won’t be in any position to learn the lessons. And the Dems who took the office instead won’t care about your lessons, because if you voted for them instead, they can point to your vote as an endorsement of their agenda. And if you didn’t vote for them, then they didn’t need your vote to win anyway.

2)A ruined economy could work to the liberal’s advantage. The more people they can make miserable, the more they can count on these people to look to the Dems who promise to come to their rescue with even more government aid. It’s like feeding an addiction.

Yeah, but once we have universal healthcare it is not going away. The solution will always be to throw more money at it, no matter how much of a failure it is, until we are taxed into oblivion.

Fixed it for you cuz Republicans could win instead.

Imagine... President Obama McCain with a Democrat Republican Congress, including a Democrat Republican Senate with a filibuster proof majority, where the Republicans Democrats will be powerless to stop the agenda of the Democrats Republicans.

To those excellent suggestions add an above-and-beyond effort by all military commands and members to get ballots earliest and to get ballots postmarked or whatever is needed to win against a presumably hostile enemy. Yes, this is war too -- which can be lost against that hostile enemy.
