Pelosi has found her power, in a U.S. House undivided
International Herald Tribune ^ | August 3, 2008 | Albert R. Hunt

Other than John McCain and Barack Obama, no U.S. politician is riding higher than Nancy Pelosi.

The speaker leads the most unified party in the recent history of the House of Representatives. She might add at least a dozen, and probably more, members to her 37-seat margin this November. She played an important, if subtle, role in facilitating Obama's nomination.

Pelosi is the toast of television talk shows as she peddles her new book, "Know Your Power." She even held her own on Jon Stewart's satirical comedy program, "The Daily Show."

Just last week, the Republican candidate, McCain, pointedly praised her as "an inspiration to millions of Americans" and vowed, if elected, to work closely with her.

She’s leading the lemmings off the cliff and into the sea.
My guess is that a lot of Rats are getting an earfull on email and phone. The House will listen because they all face election.
If the Pubs can stick to the message and not compromise..they will score and upset.
We need to laws done quickily..drilling offshore, ANWR and Federal lands..without restrictions.
A law which ends the ability of EPA to regulate CO2..let’s kill the GW idea in the cradle.
The people are ready.

I just think McCain said that because he’s in a campaign, and showing his ‘across the aisle’ willingness.

To say this is the most unified democratic party isn’t saying much. There are a lot of democrats who still support Hillary, and others who are now upset with Obama’s energy flip-flop, and his more than questionable leadership abilities.
McCain doesn’t need to prove himself the way Obama does.

Pelosi is a national and international embarrassment.

Sadly, the only time the GOP seems to show any spine is when they are nowhere near a majority.

Makes me ILL! This is McCain’s election to lose and if he keeps talking like this he will most certainly lose!

LOL!

I don’t know which is more nauseating.

Is it McCain’s statement or the author’s glowing praise for Pelosi?

I want to think what you said is true! I have made many calls and sent emails, but just wonder how many others have done the same. If folks will remember the pressure that was applied over the immigration legislation they know there is “power to the people” IF it is applied. I also believe the House members will listen IF they hear from voters from their districts. I hope folks will do it!

The Dems are united in the House because all those “conservatives” lied through their teeth and constituents bought it. So now these “blue dogs” are every bit as lefty as the rest of the Dems. This is another club the Repubs can use to hit the Dems over the head with in those marginal districts. Some GOP seats will fall unfortunately. But maybe they can pick up a few by aligning the “moderate” representatives with Pelosi in districts that will go for McCain.

Friends, I meant to add that in my calls to representatives outside my district they usually ask for your zip code or already know you are calling from outside their district. This makes your call usless as they know you can’t vote for or against them. So calling outside one’s district would not do much good.

As for emails it works the same way if you honestly type in your address. I don’t like to do it, but have sent emails to members outside my district with addresses from within their district hoping to apply pressure.

I have applied pressure in my district. Just hope others will do the same in their districts!

What I still can't figure out is that if the House has the lowest approval rating in the history of Congress, how can the majority party be adding seats this year? It makes absolutely no sense to me.
