Exclusive: Al Qaeda No. 2 Injured?

Unverified Letter Obtained By CBS News Urgently Requests Doctor To Treat Ayman al-Zawahiri

CBS) Ayman al-Zawahiri - the second most powerful leader in al Qaeda and Osama Bin Laden's No. 2 - may be critically wounded and possibly dead, CBS News chief foreign affairs correspondent Lara Logan reports exclusively.

CBS News has obtained a copy of an intercepted letter from sources in Pakistan, which urgently requests a doctor to treat al-Zawahiri. He's believed to be somewhere in Pakistan's remote tribal areas of Pakistan.

The letter refers to Sheikh Dr. Ayman al-Zawahiri by name - and says that he is in "severe pain" and his "injuries are infected."

It is reportedly written by local Taliban leader, Baitullah Mehsud, whose signature and seal are visible on the letter.

The Taliban logo and the Mehsud's seal have been confirmed by experts as legitimate.

However, CBS News has not been able to confirm the authenticity of Baitullah Mehsud's signature and seal.

The letter is dated July 29 - one day after a U.S. air strike that killed al Qaeda weapons expert Abu Khabab al-Masri, and five other Arabs in South Waziristan.

CNN is going out of their way to try and refute CBS’s report. Maybe CNN hasn't quite figured out that there's other news sources.

If we can intercept the letter, why don’t next time we sprinkle a little anthrax in there and send it on its way.

Good ole Thurman Munson. My fave was Graig Nettles. Loved his glove and that big lefty pull swing. That was back when you could bat .240 and be the starting 3rd baseman for the Yanks. The pre-steroid, juiced ball, expansion team, small park jokey era. Thurm behind the plate with no helmet, just a cap backwards. Big sideburns everywhere ya looked. Great team. Great memories.

Remember when Nettles beat up Bill Lee. Bill Lee said that “Nettles was pottie trained at gun point” LOL LOL.

Don't forget the great Catfish. Everytime he was giving a speech he always said “I want to that Mr. Steinbrenner for paying me”. LOL

The spot on his forehead is probably a Seal sniper’s laser dot.

The mutadayyin ("religious"...I use the word loosely) often have spots on their foreheads due to years of praying directly on the ground instead of on a rug.

Yep. Cat was past his prime, but a great guy. He used to give up a few runs early and settle down. I loved Sparky Lyle too. And Mick the Quick. Baseball has changed so much since then. For the worse, of course.

Mick the quick would come to the plate and you would think he was crippled. He was fast like lightening.

Nice to reminisce it was and still is one of my favorite memories.

Nice dresses.

You think so? I wasn't so sure if white was their color. It washes them out so much. A soft blue would be nicer...

Say! I've seen pics of O'Hussein in a dress too! Now THAT'S *gak* class!!!

Chambliss home run against KC. Pandamonium in the Bronx! :-)

I loved that 98 team a lot, too. Scotty Brosius. WS MVP. That was a team you could root for. The last few years? Not so much.

I hope that is true because it will be more than a huge VICTORY in our war on terror. I monitored some of the terrorists forum earlier today but nothing on this yet. I will check them later on tonight.

Allah e-mailed Bill Roggio and he doubts it. So I think I'll hold back on celebrating for awhile.

Thanks for the ping! It would be interesting to know if there is a big spike in radio traffic in that part of the world.
