The first report I saw of this event described the perp's actions as being fairly quick. Apparently he first stabbed the man multiple times, initially it was numbered as around 50 times. He then proceeded to gut the victim. After he finished the gutting he then severed the victim's head.

When I first saw the report I did indeed wonder why nobody made a move on the perp while he was stabbing the victim 50 times.

I don't know how accurate the information was, but I suspect the victim didn't have much of a chance after the first few plunges of the knife. The knife apparently had a sizable blade so the other passengers may have not acted against the perp out of self preservation by basically doing nothing.

They were lucky he was satisfied by only one kill.

Usually I would be the type to head toward trouble. Not on this one. To try and take on a nut with a knive with a shoe and a bus ticket would be suicide. To have any chance you would need maneuvering room. Which is exactly what you don’t have on a bus. I’d be out the door. If there wasn’t one, I’d make one.

I understand that he stabbed the guy, and while everyone was running from the psycho with the knife, he decapitated the young man before some of the passengers got back on the bus to confront him. He came running at these passengers, with the knife, and the head, and then returned to mutilate the body after being locked in the bus.
