Perigueux, France - The Perigueux District Attorney announced today that he is indicting a 40-year old man who had abducted and raped a 12-year old girl on Wednesday in Coulounieix-Chamiers [a small town]. The child was freed by police early on Thursday morning, after she alerted a few passers-by through a window.
According to Adjunct DA Odile de Fritsch, the girl was in a state of acute shock. She had no injuries in her sexual organs, but she was sexually assaulted and was forced to perform oral sex. She was repeatedly beaten and kicked. Her jawbone joint was injured.
The rapist is an Algerian citizenship, born in 1964, who lived alone in France on an invalidity pension. He was known by the police for theft and violation of immigration laws.
The girl had gone shopping to a place near her home on Wednesday around 5 PM, and the man talked her into following him to his apartment under a false pretense. Her family became alarmed and started searching the neighborhood, enrolling many neighbors and friends. Then, around 9:40 PM, her mother then went to the police station to signal the girl's disappearance.
Around 1 AM on Thursday morning, the girl attempted to escape by tying bed sheets to the window of the rapist's third-floor apartment. while the man was asleep. She then alerted two youths that were passing by the apartment building. The youths advised her to stay in the apartment while they called the police. Policemen broke through the door around 1;30 and rescued the victim, who had locked herself in the toilets. They arrested the man, who denies everything and is giving only "evasive answers".
The rapist was living less than 50 m (150 ft) away from the victim.

I don’t think Algerians are illegals in France. The French had major problems back in ‘56 because they were colonials and allowed to emigrate.

The police sources say that he had a brush with the French immigration laws. As in, not allowed to be in France. Translation, he was an illegal.

Also, a point I should have added in the WTFs that this story is raising: How come this guy was a pensioned invalid, yet was valid enough to beat up and force a child? Must have been a miraculous remission. Hope that he doesn't use that to get a medical parole after he's jailed.
IIRC, Algeria was formally part of France during that time, not merely a colony. Which meant Algerians were French citizens. Free to enter `La France Metropole’ as they pleased.
I remember seeing on TV how the Muslim `Secret Army Organization’ terrorized Frenchmen native to Algeria (`les pied-noirs’) until they were forced to flee in 1962.
