I just called and said "There's a Republican revolt going on int the House Chamber and I wasn't seeing much coverage of it." I got a run around on it. Was told several times "There are no cameras on now. Cameras are not allowed." I objected, politely, that the story could still be covered.
He seemed mildly irritated that I would question that and asked if I wanted to talk to (name garbled) and I said yes. Got a phone tree that led to leaving a recorded message. I did...
"There's a Republican revolt going on in the House Chamber. I understand that the cameras are turned off. You can still cover the story. Thank you."

Polite procedures allow for the Speaker to manage what votes make it to the floor for a vote, mostly just to facilitate normal process (there are far more votes desired than there is time for). HOWEVER, such rules can - and are - abused at times to prevent very popular bills from being voted on. In this case, there is clearly much support to end the ban on domestic oil drilling, but the few hardcore opponents (led by Pelosi) are abusing the voting procedures to prevent the subject from being voted on.
One technique, currently at issue, is to delay a vote until a standard recess period arrives. Despite so many Congressmen wanting to vote on this bill, Pelosi arranged for a FIVE-WEEK recess to start today. Oh, gee, guess we can’t get to that drilling bill for over a month, sorry.
Sheppard Smith wouldn’t know a news story if it punched him in the nose.
Other folks have given me their similar thoughts that Republicans have done nothing, and that this is grand standing.
