His aunt says he is undergoing major surgery for a broken back and broken heel. While he was lying on the ground, she wonders why Ozark police used an electric stun gun on him up to 19 times.

“I'm not an officer, but i don't see the reason for ‘Tasering’ somebody laying there with a broken back. I don't consider that a threat,”

His dad says the use of the stun gun delayed what would have been immediate surgery by two days.

“The ‘Tasering’ increased his white blood cell count and caused him to have a temperature so they could not go into the operation.”

“He refused to comply with the officers and so the officers had to deploy their Tasers in order to subdue him. He is making incoherent statements; he's also making statements such as, ‘Shoot cops, kill cops,’ things like that. So there was cause for concern to the officers,” said Ozark Police Capt. Thomas Rousset.

Police say although there are several unanswered questions; the reason for the use of a stun gun is not one of them.

“It's a big concern for the officers to keep this guy out of traffic, to keep him from getting hurt,” said Rousset.

Mace was still in intensive care on Wednesday night, listed in fair condition. He was scheduled for surgery again on Thursday.

“Before the Taser, this man had no temperature. None at all.

If a thermometer had been placed in his mouth, it would have read: NONE

Yeah, because NOBODY (especially mothers)ever refers to an “elevated temperature” as “having a temperature”, right?

They will probably have to put out a bond issue to pay the actual and punitive damages. Beeeg Money.

Don’t know if Ozark, Missouri could sell a savings bond.

I have cracked a head or two back in the old days, but that is the sort of thing you reserve for physically violent people. I never liked having to do it. It seems to me that if you have a man down with a Taser after one shot, you can control him. Juicing him 19 times is just plain sadism.

They may have to give him city hall, like East St. Louis, and lease it back from him at really spectaclar rates.

When I was a kid, I used to look up to policemen and respect them. These days they are just bullies with guns

Interestingly, I've noticed that cops in big cities are still pretty much good guys. It's these younger, suburban cops who have major cases of Short D!ck Syndrome.

How can anybody make up their mind on a story that is so poorly written that it leaves more questions than answers?

In the many years I have lived in Southwestern Missouri Channel 3, KY3 TV does a better job of reporting the news than other members of the media.

In my dealing with KY3 they have been fair and honest in what they reported.

They are the most unbiased of the TV stations and the local liberal rag. IMHO

I'd have to agree. KY3 is consistently better than the other two commercial stations that claim to be in the news gathering biz.
What's not clear is; did the kid fall from the overpass first, or did the shock knock him off ?

Maybe....

Maybe the cops are lying through their teeth to protect their butts.

With spinal cord injuries time is of the essence and can make the difference between being able to walk or spending the rest of you life in a wheelchair.

If that's true and this kid has complications because of the delayed surgery, he and his family deserve to own the police department.

1) “Anybody” could have researched and read other information and stories previous and subsequent to the one posted. It is all over the internet.

2) I never said anyone knew he had a broken back. However, it would/should have been obvious that he was INJURED. I merely stated, from my experience, that when the back is broken one is unable to move very well, if at all, and I thereby implied that a REASONABLE person would be able to recognize that the injured party was not a threat to them.

The police are only supposed to taser/shoot someone who represents a REAL THRAET. It is not suposed to be used as a tool to induce subservience or to punish bad language.

The way I understand the reporter (on the website):

"By the time officers arrived, the teen was off the 30-foot overpass, lying on the shoulder below along U.S. 65, with no good explanation as to how he got there".

In this area at least 2 police cars are at many traffic stops, injury accidents 2 to 4 or more police cars until an ambulance arrives.

I am no first aid expert, but isn't it best to immobilize an injured person? Even if heaven forbid you have to touch the injured person.

I have to wonder if "Tasering" is in any First Aid Manual?

I’m with you Lloyd. Cops look to make us dance now. What happened to cops just physically restraining him if need be?

"...he and his family deserve to own the police department. "

Lawsuits are one thing, but he and his family deserve (at the very least) to see these criminals behind bars with a girlfriend named Bubba taking care of them.

In a more perfect world, he and his family deserve to toss in the first shovel full of dirt on this cops grave.

Oh, of course. A gang of thugs carrying badges tazed a 16 year old lying on the side of the road with a broken back 19 times "to keep him from getting hurt." Positively Orwellian.
