"show me where it says retreating pet, please."

Gladly.

"As the police came in, Calvo said, they shot his 7-year-old black Labrador retriever, Payton, near the front door and then his 4-year-old dog, Chase, also a black Lab, as the dog ran into a back room."

“I’m wondering why these killings of harmless dogs aren’t ginning up more public outrage...”

Once the public accepted military style raids on citizens as a part of “the war on drugs”, accepting the deaths of the dogs came easily.

oh, where the dogs owner said the dog was running away? sorry, the fact here is that a package full of drugs was delivered and accepted.

drug dealers have been known to keep weapons in their home upon occasion. i understand this was the mayor. but if the mayor of your town received 32 pounds of drugs on his doorstep, wouldn't you be a little skeptical and begin to think that he might not be the man everyone thought he was?

i have been saying that this could have been a set-up but the cops were not in on it, imho.

Somebody could have shipped it to them in a way that they knew would be detected. Or not.

“Damn shame what they did to them dogs!”

What did you call this S#@$ man...(Cheech and Chong);

Mostly Maui Waui man, but it’s got some Labrador in it.
What’s Labrador?
I had it on the table and the little motherf*cker ate it, man. Then I had to follow him around with a little baggie for three days, man, before I got it back. Really blew the dog’s mind, ya know?
You mean we’re smokin’ dog sh*t, man?

So, were they smok’n the labrador...

see post #83 please. if the mayor was upstairs at the time of the raid, how would he know what his dog was doing upon the teams entry?

I don’t disagree with your point... in fact I agree with it. However, that being said... it’s right there on the outskirts of DC. Near the beltway but still surrounded by towns with lots of crime. I lived in the DC area for a couple of years...I don’t think you’d notice much of a difference as you went from one town into another town there... just to give you a mental picture. But I agree, something doesn’t add up.

If they had really want to do some police work, they could have opened the package, substituted oregano for the MJ, tapped the mayor’s and his family’s phones, then sat back and waited to see who one of them contacted about the screw up.

Or maybe I’ve watched too many cop shows on TV.

Besides, how many people would NOT bring a FedEx/UPS package sitting on their front porch into the house, whether they could remember ordering something or not? It is not suspicious or unusual behavior, and does not indicate intent.

The person in charge of calling for this raid is an idiot.

32 pounds is a hell of a lot of weed to waste in a setup.

Why? What else are they going to do with it? Besides, they get it right back as 'evidence' to reuse.

Did I miss the mayor's political affiliation???

Given the contents of the package, I'm gonna guess Libertarian. :)

Yep, typical small-town mayor answering his door.

In addition, the cops didn’t have a search warrant with them when they raided, have not produced one yet, and no one wants to admit where the buck stops on this one.

I see very little reason whatsoever to use military tactics to raid a house and kill dogs. Ever. Especially when you can surround and knock with a valid search warrant. This was a classic case of unrestrained militarization of our police forces causing unnecessary damage to property and life. It must be stopped.

I think it’s time we gave serious consideration to a ban on no-knock raids unless there are hostages, a sniper, or a terrorist with a bomb involved. I read about this crap every other day, and it’s obvious we have a bunch of roid-raging morons with small-penis issues manning these thug-squads. They need to be reigned in.
