Obama Opposes California Marriage Amendment While McCain Supports It

July 30, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As the California Marriage Amendment debate heats up Barack Obama and John McCain have made clear their respective positions on the issue.

Two weeks after the California Supreme Court announced its decision to allow same-sex couples to "marry", opponents of same-sex marriage succeeded in placing on the November ballot a proposed constitutional amendment which states: "Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California." If passed, the measure would reverse the recent court decision.

Mr. Obama recently made his position public in a letter sent to a San Francisco homosexual activist group.

"I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states," wrote Mr. Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.

At the same time John McCain has announced his support for the California Protection of Marriage initiative in an email received by the ProtectMarriage.com campaign.

"I support the efforts of the people of California to recognize marriage as a unique institution between a man and a woman, just as we did in my home state of Arizona. I do not believe judges should be making these decisions," Mr. McCain stated.

The Obamassiah would also do away with DOMA, which I believe allows states to refuse to recognize same-sex marriage. This is an issue which can completely SINK him - are you listening, RNC??

Obama’s against letting the people decide matters. Can’t have them disobeying Big Brother after all.

Of course he opposes this - he's the candidate for change, and we all know what that means!

"A vote for McCain is a vote against Obama"

Unfortunately, that's the only thing it is.

Looking Down the Ticket

What’s a disgruntled conservative blogger to do this election?

A: open up the five hundredth “Lesser of Two Evils” should-I-actually-vote-for-that-squish-McCain debate, or

B: Look around for some actual conservatives to back?

You might not find any at the top of the ticket, but the real conservatives are out there, running for Congress all around the country. I was thinking about writing a post summarizing some of the hotter races, where some support from bloggers and local activists and small donors could make a big difference.

"Vote Down the Ticket!"

You have pointed out a significant policy difference between McCain and the lord messiah B. Hussein Obama. The McCain Deranged will not be pleased.

the anti-liberal: “Vote Down the Ticket!”

I think you make an excellent point. If McCain is elected, we (conservatives) will immediately have to go to war against our CINC over global warming, immigration amnesty, and other areas where he’s squishy. The only way to win that war is to vote down ticket for conservatives! Stop supporting RINOs, who will join (and have joined) with Democrats to oppose us.

I respect those who don’t want to vote for McCain. I also respect those who feel he must be supported as the lesser of two evils. However, one shouldn’t forget that McCain IS the enemy of conservatism. He’s a nasty Republican RINO who sold us out time and time again when Republicans were in the majority. His interests are generally not ours. Don’t forget that his election will only be the start of a new battle.
