WASHINGTON (AP) - The House on Tuesday issued an unprecedented apology to black Americans for the wrongs committed against them and their ancestors who suffered under slavery and Jim Crow segregation laws.
"Today represents a milestone in our nation's efforts to remedy the ills of our past," said Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus.

My parents came from central Italy in the early 1900’s. They didn’t bring slaves with them.
Why is Ms. Kilpatrick a member of the party that supported both slavery and Jim Crow laws? She has sided with the political party that consciously used its power to oppress her ancestors.
If there is a reparations bill to pay, send it to the Democratic National Committee.
Outrageous hypocrites!
what the hell, pay them. gov’t will just print more funny money and the will use it to stimulate the drug dealers pockets....
Gee - you mean we’re responsible? Not those Democrats back in the 1850’s? Hoodathought????
What next? We apologize to Japan for nuking them????
oil down 16% since bushes announcement....around here gas is down a mere 2.5% just doesn’t add up does it.
Isn’t that cute, the party that supports Socialism (slavery to the state) is apologizing for a different form of slavery.
This oughta do it, looks like we’re going to have “peace in our time”.
Now we’re going to have lots of happy and satisfied “African hyphen Americans” amidst us.
Thank God Almighty they’re “free at last”. No more trouble, no more problems, no more whining, no more complaining.
Another great day for our esteemed and courageous congress passing another vital, useful, helpful, empirical, pragmatic and realistic piece of legislation. It’s good that they’re sticking to the important stuff and not just more feel good but useless, pseudo symbolic fluff and tinsle and glitter.
For the first time in my life, I’m proud to be an American.
God damn (whoops, I mean Bless) America.
A Republican should have sponsored a resolution demanding that the Democratic Party apologize for slavery and Jim Crow. I’d love to see the debate that one would set off.
I’ve noticed over the years that some of my Southern brethren suffer the most from white guilt. That may be more appropriate, but my position has been, if they want to feel guilty, let ‘em.
Roll call is not up yet but here is where it will be:

There were 120 co-sponsors so you can at least check that list for any spineless wienies from your state who supported this resolution. Two of the usual liberal suspects from my state were on it.
‘my Republican ancestors who freed their ancestors from slavery.’
The dolts we have in congress seem to forget or not know that it was the Democrats who supported slavery. What a bunch of posturing, self serving sop suckers.
They raise minimum wage and now this. Well that is what I call a productive Congress.
I'm waiting.
Bump.
Is there an international reparations committee?
