Obama's Prayer:The Intended Audience

Barack Obama wanted the world to know that he can pray like a Christian. Thus, he penned a ‘note to God' on stationery from the King David Hotel in Jerusalem, and he generously gave a copy to the "international media even before he put in the Kotel, a short time after he wrote it at the King David Hotel." Thus says the Ma'ariv spokesman in defense of his newspaper, which may be the subject of a criminal investigation for publishing the ‘note to God' which Obama gave to the paper. For, interestingly, not only Ma'ariv was a recipient of Obama's generosity, so was Yediot Ahoronot (YA), the most popular Israeli daily. YA also obtained the ‘note to God' from Obama but declined to print it, ironically, "to respect Obama's privacy."

How Obama's prayer was released by him to the press before Maariv got it from the wall and how he manipulated religious feelings of others for his political benefit.

This totally reminds me of the Bill Clinton photo op in 1994 when Clinton visited Omaha Beach in Normandy on the 50th anniversary of D-Day. While the press took photos and video footage, Clinton pensively paused and arranged some rocks in the shape of a cross, then bowed his head in reverent contemplation. The only problem is that there are no rocks on this beach, just sand and this was all carefully staged.

Same with Obama. This has all the earmarks of political stagecraft with the note carefully crafted by staff and dutifully released for political impact. In other words, it was a political scam.

There was a reply scrawled on the bottom of the hotel stationery:

Dear Barry: I have no idea where you are coming from. Do you worship Me in spirit and in truth or are you still dabbling with Islam? If you believe, you know all prayers and all redemption comes to me by passing through the narrow gate known as my Son. Now, go forth and stop acting like a Messiah, and get thy feces together.

Don’t know about that—but he hasn’t their votes anyhow.
The question is what more secular people will think about this total phony.

Granted, the secular, American Jews are very liberal. But, Orthodox Jews, e.g. Joe Liberman, can’t stand him.

I have yet to see any evidence that the Obama campaign provided the text of the note or permission to publish it, to any media outlet. The only outlet making this claim is Maariv, which is desperate to mount a defense, and obviously untrustworthy. No other media outlet has confirmed Maariv’s claim that the note was released to “media outlets” prior to its being placed in the wall. So either Maariv actually got it from the yeshiva student-turned-thief, or they conspired with the Obama campaign to publish it and pretend (until they got in heaps of trouble for it) that the student-thief was their source. Either way, Maariv lies, and I don’t believe anything they say unless/until I see corroboration from a reliable source.

I’m concerned about how eagerly and unquestioningly FReepers are jumping on the “Obama’s prayer was a publicity stunt” bandwagon. Just because we don’t trust Obama (with good reason) isn’t a reason to trust Maariv. Obama is a pretty shrewd politician, and I can’t quite imagine him being stupid enough to scribble out a prayer, hand copies to a bunch of hovering media reps at his hotel, and say “I’m on my way to put this in the Western Wall, feel free to publish it”. And if Maariv actually believed that multiple media outlets had been given copies of the prayer with permission to publish it, why didn’t they mention this when they originally published it, rather than claim they got it from a yeshiva student who stole it from the wall?

I'd say its more like when Hill & Bill were "outraged" at the "surreptitious" picture of them dancing romantically on the beach.
