I was at the Pensacola NAS Museum last week and this is displayed. Very tragic.

All of this gives the lie to Gen. Weasel Clark in his disparagement of McCain's heroism. I don't care if purist conservatives like him or not - I would be honored to follow him into battle any time anywhere.

I recall a picture of a sailor in Life magazine running with a fire extinguisher towards a bomb in the fire. It detonated.

Years later, my brother-in-law served on the ship its sailors called the “USS Forest Fire.” That event resulted in the requirement for every sailor to have fire fighting training.

I was in the Navy on the USS Coral Sea (CV-43) in the early 80’s and a still vividly remember watching the video of this as part of our damage control training. May all who lost their lives rest in eternal peace.
