JOHN MCCAIN, MITT ROMNEY
Pawlenty or Romney?
The individual who told me yesterday that he had heard McCain's pick is coming soon, and that it was Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, now tells me that McCain's list is down to Pawlenty or Mitt Romney.
I urge readers to take this with the requisite caution. Neither man's schedule has had any last-minute changes or cancellations, which to me is a leading sign of an announcement being lined up. Pawlenty is still scheduled to speak before the American Legislative Exchange Council tomorrow, and Romney is on vacation in New Hampshire until next week. (Or so the media is told.) He's also scheduled to attend the Olympics Opening Ceremonies in Beijing.)
Pawlenty would be awful...so it’s probably him. Good match for McCain.
Announcing Romney before the opening ceremony and then getting highlighted what a bangup job Mitt did with ECONOMIC ISSUES with a previous Olympics would be great media coverage. As far as some of the evangelicals "boycotting" McCain because due to a Mormon on the ticket... that's statistical "noise" to be ignored.
There goes Mitt’s tough tone on illegals.....
With oil and gasoline prices likely to be the big issue, McCain should ignore favorite-son calculi and pick Sarah Palin. She’s the most vocal pro-drilling elected official with the necessary stature, and would likely turn the PUMAs who planned to stay home into one-time GOP voters.
Right, McCain is going to pick someone 4 inches taller than him.
Pawlenty has two things going for him.
First, he was a very early and strong McCain supporter. I suspect that weighs VERY heavily in McCain’s political calculus.
Second, he will NOT overshadow the candidate. (Not sure how tall Tim is. If he’s shorter than McCain then he’s a lock).
“Pawlenty or Romney?”
Neither, I want Palin.
A lot more pro-drilling than McCain, who still opposes drilling in Alaska's ANWR. So, McCain would be highlighting his weakness with the Pro-Drilling Palin.
Pawlenty was a lot more early than he was effective. Romney trounced McCain 2-1 in the MN GOP Caucus.
Kaine will not help flip VA, he’s not that popular. Mark Warner could probably help Obambi flip VA, but he has ruled out a VP run opting for the senate instead.
Don’t tell me Barr or Baldwin.
Whatever.
Anyone stupid enough to appoint Mitt Romney to VP will appoint idiot liberals to the Supreme Court.
I’m trying to think like McCain here. And don’t take seriously any numbers from the MN caucus. The caucus here is nothing but a farce. None of the politicians pay the LEAST attention to them.
Not Barr; never heard of Baldwin.
May just write in Fred Thompson.
I did send $2300 to Sen John Cornyn. He’s the only actual conservative I get to vote for this election cycle.
"It's such a shame they can't both lose."
I have a person that would make me EAGERLY vote for McCain:
Eric Cantor -— actual conservative Republican -— from Virginia -— a swing state.
And he happens to be Jewish.
Given Obama’s weakness on Israel, THIS is the election to take back the Jewish vote.
You’ll write in Fred Thompson, who isn’t running, but you won’t vote for McCain? Now I don’t get that. There’s an old expression: the student is not greater than the teacher.
Mitt, Mitt, Mitt. ;)
Risky. The announcement at the convention would be, “Eric Cantor!!” The crow would hoot, “Whoo-hoo!!” The following comments in the pressbox would be, “Eric who?”
“THIS is the election to take back the Jewish vote.”
Frankly I’d be happy with 1/3rd and thrilled if we got to 40%. Fat chance for the latter.
