What should the House apologize for? (Slavery and Jim Crow Laws)

Talk about warped priorities. The do-nothing/14 percent approval-rated Congress, led by Nancy the Navigator Pelosi, refuses to allow debate on drilling; the appropriations bills are in limbo, and judicial vacancies abound.

But hey, they’ve found time to take action on that all-important apology for slavery and Jim Crow laws:

The House of Representatives was poised Tuesday to pass a resolution apologizing to African-Americans for slavery and the era of Jim Crow.

The nonbinding resolution, which is expected to pass, was introduced by Rep. Steve Cohen, a white lawmaker who represents a majority black district in Memphis, Tennessee.

While many states have apologized for slavery, it will be first time a branch of the federal government will apologize for slavery if the resolution passes, an aide to Cohen said.

By passing the resolution, the House would also acknowledge the “injustice, cruelty, brutality and inhumanity of slavery and Jim Crow,” the period after slavery was abolished in which African-Americans were denied the right to vote and other civil liberties. The resolution states that “the vestiges of Jim Crow continue to this day.”

“African-Americans continue to suffer from the consequences of slavery and Jim Crow — long after both systems were formally abolished — through enormous damage and loss, both tangible and intangible, including the loss of human dignity and liberty, the frustration of careers and professional lives, and the long-term loss of income and opportunity,” the resolution states.

Next stop: Reparations!

They need to apologize for, and discontinue, the modern day vote slavery that they hold the black community in.

How about “culturist”?

He’s painting with a broad brush - maybe.

But his assertions are right on and statistically founded.

The culture in question has cost this country BIG TIME in crime, lost productivity, and “charity” down a rathole; far more than any “owed” reparations that can be asked for.

“...the loss of human dignity and liberty..”

These days, that is entirely their problem.

And ironically triggered by do-gooders who thought they were making up for all that past injustice.

With no welfare state, blacks would be better off now than they actually are.

Only the House DEMOCRATS should be apologizing, since it was THEY who enacted and supported the slavery and Jim Crow Laws
NOT the Republicans.

That is an excellent point. Nearly every race issue or complaint could use this fine point. Because it is fact.

America’s post WWII racial incongruence equals “democrat party” racial incongruence.

I’ve said it before and I say it again:

McCain needs to call out Obama on Slave Reparations. He can’t oppose Reparations; he would alienate many in his base. If he favors it, Katie bar the door; every rural, Blue State, Democrat will be running to the Republican Ticket.

It’s a win-win situation for Mac.

"You're painting 40 million Americans with a pretty broad brush there, buddy. But no -- you're not a racist -- no sirree... "

Perhaps YOU should examine your own racism.....and ignorace of the FACTS.

If you can point out any false statement in my post -- do so.

If you can point out where I paint all blacks with the same "broad brush" do so.

If you didn't notice I never once said "all" in my post - and additionally pointed out that IMMIGRANT BLACKS on average do better in America that the native born and welfare coddled from cradle to grave blacks -- then try to read with some level of reading comprehension.

If you can't - then I will include YOU in the group of folks who scream RACISM or RACIST whenever confronted by someone in possession of the facts they aren't afraid to discuss......even if some folks find them unflattering...

Those blacks who continue to blame all their faults and inabilities on the dastardly white man -- they will remain enslaved on the leftist's planation with large numbers residing in prisons or the lowest rungs of society, as is their condition today.

Why don’t we start a movement to demand that Obambi apologize for his slave-trading ancestors in Kenya??

Perhaps YOU should examine your own racism..

Oh yes, I'm the racist (lol!). I now accuse you of chutzpah.

If you can point out where I paint all blacks with the same "broad brush" do so.

America’s native born blacks represent the LEAST accomplished, least self sufficient, least responsible, most dependent upon welfare to this day of ANY ethnic group in America!

No, no broad brush. I would hope that you don't venture out much into polite society. We left people like you behind forty years ago.

Yes but the magic negro if reperations were appropriated would only get half a share, and would have to apologize with the other half. I think appropriate apologies and reperations have been given through billions in dollars of wasted entitlements, with little or nothing to show from them.

The republicans throughout history have more often than not had to repair problems created by the Rats, but by the time they get around to fixing them, they are already being blamed for the problems by the Rats. Liberals are literally pieces of garbage who in their own right have lived off of republican welfare throughout history! Much like the oil problems of today, Clinton had the opportunity 16 years ago to begin in earnest strategic safe oil drilling, but yet the Rats will never except this, much like his policy of letting his buddy Bin Laden walk when he was handed him on a platter. Clinton is a complete loser and sexual deviant, and his legacy was built on the backs of his republican led congress and senate.

STILL having problems with READING COMPREHENSION are you?

The "broad brush" is probably more justified than I intended -- given that American blacks vote more as a monolithic block than any other ethnic group in America....

America's NATIVE BORN blacks do not represent all the blacks in America.
Nor I suspect will you find an ethnic group in America receiving more welfare at all levels than native born blacks.

Seems to be a pattern there - doesn't it?

So long as folks like YOU -- who take the RACIST position that criticism of some or many blacks is criticism of all - there can be no discourse and no improvement....

It may shock you to learn there are blacks in our extended family - and they are loved as family is loved. Additionally my blood runs in the veins of black Marine bothers and their's in mine - so I am about as poor a target for your jerk knee accusations as you could find..

So in future -- don't bother to waste my time with your jerk knee reactions.....

"I would hope that you don't venture out much into polite society. We left people like you behind forty years ago."

Apparently, none of the "politeness" of your society rubbed off on you --- and I doubt you have "left me behind" by any measure you wish to use.

Listen carefully ---- I'm STILL present.

America's NATIVE BORN blacks do not represent all the blacks in America.

Oh sure, you don't hate all blacks, just the 98% of American blacks who were actually born in America. If you think that slim caveat will get me to retract my accusation of racism, you're nuts. That's the same garbage line that Goebbels and Streicher used in Der Struemer. "We don't hate all Jews," they'd write with a sneer, "just the 95% who are bankers, criminals, communists and degenerates." Sure....

I stand by what I said. Your racism is an ugly reminder of where America used to be. 60 years after Brown v. Board, you and your bigotry are obsolete. Americans just don't hate their neighbors. I'm sorry you missed the boat.

You really are thick headed aren’t you..
What is it you don’t understand about “GO AWAY”

I don’t want to hear from you, even though you seem fixated on insulting me.

Insults are meaningless, when they come from one lacking facts or the desire to conduct a conversation.... A conversation can not consist of hurling insults...

When you can bring FACTS that refute anything I’ve posted - do so..

Until then — go away.
It that clear enough?

"I’m afraid there will come a time when whites simply become fed up or tone deaf to the whole idea of “white guilt” and racial equality, especially when it’s continually drummed into them relentlessly."

I've already reached that point..

As the 1st generation born in the U.S. from immigrant parents -- I feel NO white guilt or responsibility for supporting folks I hold in contempt for their slovenly, criminal and career welfare dependency.

Then to be told that I'm responsible for their condition - and must surrender more of my earned income to support those who won't work - is a "bridge too far"...

I'm nearing 70, too quickly! --- and find it distressing to see the levels to which racial animosity has risen while at the same time the lowering of standards, morals and self sufficiency among far too many blacks in America..

Then to learn that a nobody - who happens to be half black and all empty suit -- is promising "change and hope" which earns him nearly 100% support from the black community is a display of racism the MSM refuses to address....

Yes - racism is more present in America today than anytime if the last few decades..
This time it is called "Black Liberation Theology", the "Black Congressional Caucus", exclusively black unions, the NAACP, Jesse Jackson's PUSH, Al Sharpton's scams and riots -- and the many KNOWN corrupt and criminally incompetent city, state and federal positions held by blacks who continue to be reelected in spite of their incompetence or criminality......

We're headed for hard times again -- with much of the pressure and instigation coming from outside sources --- rabble rousing.

Unfortunately -- in America's black communities, there is plenty of rabble to rouse.

The blacks I do feel deep compassion for - are those I ran with in my youth, those in my family, those who served honorably out of love of country in the Marine Corps and those who made successes out of their life the right way: They EARNED it through a life of commitment, hard honest and ethical work. Not those who bitch, blame and demand more handouts.... F'em.

>I’m not apologizing. My family has nothing to apologize for,<

The majority of families that actually owned slaves were financially devastated during Reconstruction. That said, how on earth does a descendant control what his ancestors did over 130 years ago?
