Then there’s the PSA with the Spanglish speakin’ woman. I just love that one.

My mom’s dad (the one I quoted) worked in the shipyards (Ingalls) during the war. My mom gave me his old steamer trunk, and it was empty save for a set of brass knuckles, which mom said he’d carry to work each day. I gave the knuckles back to her (she never knew they were in the trunk ‘til then) as a keepsake.

Mississippi, should have known. Those guys worked themselves to death at Ingalls.

He only worked there for a few years. Then he went on to real estate, then a vending business. He was so cool as a grandfather... I was the only kid on the block whose grandpa had a candy vending machine in his living room... that he’d give you money for ;)

Hannity is the wallbanger, a reference to his unimpressive educational background and his prior career doing minor carpentry work.

Wow, and here I thought my grandpa was cool because he had a pool table!

A lot of otherwise poor Southern folk made some decent money at the shipyards, and went on to do better things after the war. But what a price to pay by today's standards.

Well, he did have an old jukebox and a giant television set--you know, the early tube TVs that took a few minutes to warm up--as old as Moses. Which is to say, my grandparents' basement looked like an antique shop, but we had a lot of fun. ;)

Speaking of old electronics... the first color TV we had was a HUGE 24” Heathkit that my dad put together. Made in USA baby, as a kit... remember those days?

He also put together his own ‘HI FI’ and did I mention he was a radar tech in the USAF and even taught engineering... he spent a lot of time at Thule when I was growing up, so when he came home I was a curious lil devil constantly messing with his oscillators and tubes (not related to TEH TUBES)

My first memories started in the early 1980s, so no, I don't. I'm familiar with the old Heath kit. What my grandparents had was a gargantuan, wood-framed set, probably dating back to the early '50s.

So there were no white punks on dope around there? ;)

I listen to Humphries once in awhile but I’m not a hard core fan.

I catch his early (8 p.m. CDT) streams, and the delayed KNEW show is going to be bad. He took off for about ten days. As it turns out, his wife (aged 34) died last week--now he is left to raise his daughters on his own. The first ten or fifteen minutes of tonight's show was heartbreaking. He described pretty much everything.

I'm not a big Rusty fan, especially since he's become a McCainiac puppet and has always been kind of a mainstream neocon type, but my heart goes out to the man and his family. He is a very funny and talented guy.

This must hurt like hell.
