The upcoming presidential election is critically important. At this point in our history it is not the time for gestures, petulance or posturing. Time to man up!"
These are dangerous times. A recalcitrant Iran continues to rattle sabers and pursue nuclear weaponry. North Korea, despite diplomatic metsubushis, remains untrustworthy and dangerous. China, in spite of the Olympics and tsunami like economic development remains bent on global hegemony. Russia may be a slumbering bear, but it remains a big, bad bear.
I am not an apologist for Sen. John McCain. He would not be my first choice for president. However, Thomas Jefferson is dead, and Ron Paul or Bob Barr is not going to restore the republic in our lifetime. Sure McCain is the lesser of available evils, but hey . . .
Complaints about McCain being the lesser of available evils are true. However, itching and moaning that support of McCain compromises conservative principles are naïve, counter-intuitive, divisive, and flat-out dangerous.
Barack Obama is a significant huge honking threat to the United States of America and the remnants of the republic. That is an empirical reality that cannot and should not be overshadowed by frustration or angst with McCain.
Obama is all sizzle and no steak. He is form without substance, a magnificent snake-oil salesman selling empty bottles.

Good line.
The Russian Bear and the Chinese Dragon are both flexing their muscles in the western hemisphere in anticipation of a weak Obama presidency. Also Russia is putting pressure on the polar regions and China is building up its sea power to try and squeeze Taiwan. Cuidado! Cuidado! Cuidado!
Thanks for posting. We need to start sharing this message loudly and often.
Used to listen to Geoff during his tenure at KSFO ‘waay back in 1998-1999.
Even back then he was calling bin Laden a real threat.
I miss that guy.
The lesser of two evils meme (and its brother ...is still evil) has always struck me as being over the top.
In my experience (watching elections since 1976 and participating since 1984), no Republican candidate (and, tell the truth and shame the devil, not many Democrats) has been evil.
I believe it was Reagan who said something like just because I only agree with someone 3/4 of the time does not make him 1/4 my enemy.
Someone else said the perfect is the enemy of the acceptable.
I voted for my first choice, FDT, in my states primary (before he quit...all to soon, to my mind). He was imperfect; he was acceptable. Others then running were likewise imperfect but acceptable.
I cannot vote in another primary; so, as in about half the presidential elections I have voted in, I will now have to vote not for the lesser of evils, but for the least imperfect.
No matter who it is, that one will be identified by the letter R.
Ive dealt with this same problem in 1996 and 2008.
(Been participating since 1984; 84, 88, 92, 2000, and 2004 were all no-brainers to me.)
In each case, my thought was to vote for my principles in the primaries, but against my enemies in the generals.
(I do not use the word enemies lightly. I would rather support someone I agree with a third of the time than one I believe intends my country as I know it actual harm...one who doesnt even mean well.)
Results? I did not contribute, by vote or silence, to BJCs second term; I will not contribute, by vote or silence, to BHOs first.
CC&E
This is the bottom line, ugly and uappetizing as it may be.
I am voting for McCain in November.
Thanks 2ndDivisionVet.

I do not like McCain. His record on the illegal alien issue alone turns me off to him, much less anything else. However..........McCain does seem to recognize that there are a lot of bad guys out in the world and we must be prepared to deal with them from strength. He does seem to genuinely support Israel and recognize the thread to all civilization of radical, militant mohammedanism. Snobama-messiah would throw Israel, the few allies we do have, and everything that made the USA great right under the bus. So............with extreme reluctance and much itching come November, I will pull the lever for McCain only as a vote against Snobama-messiah.
