Who is McCain's Base? (Vanity)
Vanity | 7/27/2008 | Wasted Potential

Posted on 07/27/2008 1:53:14 PM PDT by wastedpotential

I have been in sackloth and ashes ever since the end of the Republican primary season dwelling on the mess we find ourselves in. Conservatives have watched the Republican nomination process get hijacked from them while they were debating whether our candidate should be socially conservative (Huckabee) vs economically conservative (Romney). Now we have McCain, who has historically proven to be mediocre at best on both sets of issues. His only strength was his view on the Iraq war.

Now that we appear to have turned the corner in Iraq, the whole withdrawal argument may be moot. If things continue this way, McCain will be reducing troop levels and bringing the home if elected president. So what is his candidacy about? If the Iraq war is basically won before the election, what is it that will define his candidacy?

Here's another question - who is McCain's base? Who will work the phones? Who will go door to door during the 72 hour GOTV? Who will organize and fund the 527 groups that can take shots at Obama that he can't (or won't) take himself, ala the Swiftboat Vets? More simply asked - who is passionate about McCain's candidacy?

The answer, to me is, nobody. Sure, a lot of us conservatives and disaffected union democrats will vote for McCain as the lesser of 2 evils, but who will "turn out" the voters? Who will sacrifice time from work and money from their budgets to see that he gets elected?

If I am right, I think that President Barack Hussein Obama will be in office come January, killing our way of life with an overwhelming Democrat Congress. Does anyone have a better answer?

Why is this disgusting, Norman? There are lots of people who feel that Obama resembles Hitler in many ways. Just check out blogs and websites. Hitler, too, promised Hope and Change. Hitler spoke to hugh masses of people and mesmerized them with his speaking ability. Hitler had the Hitler Youth. Obama wants to start the National Civilian Security Force.

Obama: We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

Check out this Dem website: http://noquarterusa.net/blog/2008/07/20/obama%E2%80%99s-civilian-national-security-force/

Even the Democrats are scared of him.

Don't forget these issues. You might find a conservative thought or two in here:

The Sanctity of Life

Health Care

Iraq

Energy

2nd Amendment

Government Reform

Maybe I misunderstood. I didn’t get the impression he was talking about Obama. If he was then why isn’t he backing the only candidate who has a chance to beat him?

Its not a matter of me getting into any position. Its a matter of the GOP in a position I can’t support.

This time around, the GOP has went to far. I have no respect for McCain, so I choose not to vote for the GOP this time.

Same thing is happening in both parties.

Have at it. Either way is a loser.

BTW, McCain talked about wanting a cap-and-trade program last week in Michigan at GM
(long after Kudlow’s misdirected speculation).

He is also touting it to bloggers:

McCain Team Energy Update
July 25th, 2008

A blogger conference call was held today, hosted by McCain policy adviser Nancy Pfotenhauer, to discuss energy issues in election 2008....

(snip)

How can a president open up more opportunities for nuclear?

Cap and trade will lower costs, making it more viable. Also, barriers to new nuclear plants will be lowered if we open Yucca mountain for the storage of waste products.

“This time around, the GOP has went to far.”

Yep that oil drilling is just too far. Finishing the GWOT is too far. Securing our border first is just too far. (Perhaps you want a real amnesty with no secure border from Obama.) No to national health care is just too far. A balanced, constitutionalist judiciary is too far. No to pork is just too far. A freeze on discretionary spending to make cuts is just too far. Keeping the tax cuts permanent is just too far. Repealing the AMT is just too far. Cutting the corporate rate 10% is just too far.

I’m just getting warmed up.

Norman, I think there are still a lot of people that haven't really come to terms with who Barack Obama is.

The candidate I supported did not win the nomination and I was so disappointed.

I used to be afraid that Hillary might be POTUS, but B. Obama makes her look downright patriotic in comparison.

When and if people start really looking into who BO is — his background, his former church, his associations, his record in Illinois, his plans for America, should he be POTUS, they will or they should abandon their disdain for John McCain and do all they can to save our country from an Obama presidency.

Obama’s mother was a communist. His father was anti-American. His mother said, “They (Americans) are not my people.”

He studied Saul Alinsky. I could go on and on, but people have to do their own research. It's easy. Just go to Yahoo or Google.

I'm telling you, during the 2004 Election I could find only ONE SITE that was anti-Kerry that was made by Democrats.

This election there are literally hundreds of sites.

Democrats are very frightened by Obama. It has nothing to do with race, as Obama’s supporters like to say. It has to do with (1) lack of any kind of experience or qualifications for the most important job in the world, (2) displays of poor judgment in friends, etc., (3) his 20 year membership at TUCC, (4) his far-left views, and I could go on and on and on.

There has never been a more unqualified, inexperienced candidate for POTUS in the history of our country. Who is this man?

He is not the friend of America.

That's a response I'd expect out of a Northeastern blue blood, political insider

Let me take a wild guess, you're from the Northeast?

Yep. I've read them.

Mostly big-government solutions.

I've seen McCain's ideas of "Reform" -- that ain't a good thing!

Helping a lying Marixist ascend to the Presidency is nothing to be proud of, that's for damn sure.

Couldn't have said it better.

Please point out any insult I have made. I asked a question which you refused to answer. I am feeling a little hurt myself. Come on. Tell the number. I do care not who; just how many. A hint, even...

Over or under the legal voting age (21), the number of states in the Union (50), Heinz Varieties (57), trombones in the Big Parade (76)???

Come on Norman.

That sucks. I did a little googling and this piece backs you up: McCain on Cap-and-Trade. Cap and trade is an issue that's beyond stupid for McCain. Not only does the policy itself not make any practical sense, but it won't draw any envirovotes from the Dems, and alienates the Right to boot. Stupid.

You see what people can accomplish when they're civil.

Funny. It wasn't I who started with the baseball analogy.

Perhaps not, but you certainly finished it. And with a very revealing quote as well. If it's just a game to you, just go ahead and admit that you'd vote for the GOP candidate even if Hillary switched parties and ran.

None of those third party clowns have any chance.

In large part due to simpleminded folks like yourself that blindly pull the party lever. Regardless, at least I'll walk away from the polls with a clear conscience.

Norman, here’s just one website made by Dems Against Obama.

http://www.nobamanetwork.com/

They aren’t just angry that Hillary wasn’t nominated, they are angry because of the undemocratic way the dems “selected” Obama, as they say.

Look, I’m a conservative Republican, but I keep my eyes on the Dems - their websites and comments.

There is unrest in both camps. Voters are angry. They are not being represented. That is good. We need representatives that truly represent our interests. But by not voting for McCain and sitting at home is only helping Obama get elected.

We can and should work on bringing our party back to true conservative values, but letting Obama get elected is not one of the ways to do that.

“Lather, Rinse, Repeat.” LOL! I feel that way too sometimes.

You are right! Undeniably right. I have to admit, I wanted John McCain for a long time, all the way back to his first run back in 1999 (I have had the privilege of following him for a long time). But, I want him to pick Duncan Hunter as his VP or someone equally as strong on Defense.

That fact is, who is our candidate in four year or eight years. I understand the moderate argument. There is a conservative candidate out there that is both charismatic as well as charming (we might know his or her name yet) but I can assure you, he or she is going to be a product of the Iraq/Afghanistan War and people will flock to them and they will pummel anything the Dems will have.

But we cannot keep looking in the same old bushel basket and pulling out the only candidates that haven’t done anything immoral.
