The young woman received no training before being sent to an undercover meeting to buy a large amount of drugs and a handgun from two suspects

I wish I could say I was shocked, but I’m not. One more time: The. Police. Are. Not. Your. Friends. This chief should be fired and face charges.

Something is sadly wrong with the justice system in Florida. I suppose we only read about the bad cases, but there sure are a lot of them.

Aggrivated agriculture??? Felonious farming????

The leauuuu IS criminal.

Prohibition creates black markets.

Prohibition gave Joe Kennedy mega bucks!!!!

Prohibition today gives MS13 all the money they want!

Capitalism is the best weapon to defeat them. Legalize everything. Flood the market, sink the price/profits. Make the criminals find new employment.

Legalize marijuana plain and simple. It is safer than alcohol.

"The young woman, a recent graduate of Florida State University, was murdered during a botched sting operation two months ago."

My condolences to Rachel Hoffman's family and friends. The War On Drugs racks up one more notch.

Saw a news/documentary that since weed is such the norm in Amsterdam it’s no longer cosidered “cool”.

She was a criminal looking to cut a deal to cut time off her punishment. It is unfortunate that she was killed. Had she not been caught twice in possession of a controlled substance, she would not have been in a position to choose between becoming a confidential informant or going to prison for four years. Sometimes doing drugs (even marijuana) has negative consequences.

Flame on!

Use the money that would have gone to Dennis Jones and his staff pay and retirements to pay off Rachele parents.

What do the citizens need them for if untrained little girls are doing the work?

Rachel Hoffman lost, her family lost, and the local taxpayers will lose when the Tallahassee police have to pay a multi-million dollar judgment.

The U.S. government is corrupt at many levels. This comes as no surprise to me, because I hear about this kind of stuff everyday even in my own town. I don't see an end to this kind of government corruption any time soon. It's only going to get worse, because too many people are not doing anything about this sort of thing. Too few people speak up when they see something wrong in their communities, which is why this sort of usurpation of power will continue.

"I'm calling her a criminal." --Tallahassee police chief Dennis Jones

Let's see, Chief Jones...

You never charged her with a crime. You made a deal with her not to prosecute her, a deal that is not yours to make. If the prosecutor had declined to prosecute her, then that's one thing...but you, sir, had her convicted before even charging her, let alone giving her a chance at trial!

You, Chief Jones, are a criminal, the way I see it. You abused your position; you intimidated, coerced, and blackmailed a citizen with power you claimed but had no right to; and you now have blood on your hands...unless you've wiped them off on your shiny jackboots.

I'm no NORML fan, but I am ever vigilant of these encroachments on liberties.

"I don't think she understood the risk or danger that she was in," said Block.

Not that I agree with the cops, but I call BS on the statement above. Drug users know exactly who they are dealing with.

Somebody needs to have their ass locked in jail over this.

Too bad it will never happen.

I would bet that Ms Hoffman did not have to deal with people that used guns in her dealings of little bags of pot. If the police knowingly sent her in to buy guns, they should be prosecuted for manslaughter, as Ms Hoffman was a drug dealer not a gun dealer.

“I’m calling her a criminal,”

-read “We need criminals to do our job for us”

Nice admission chief.

Also, shouldn’t the F-troop have been handling a gun buy?

War on Drugs:
William F. Buckley, Jr.:
Marijuana never kicks down your door in the middle of the night. Marijuana never locks up sick and dying people, does not suppress medical research, does not peek in bedroom windows. Even if one takes every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could.

Milton Friedman:
I’m in favor of legalizing drugs. According to my value system, if people want to kill themselves, they have every right to do so. Most of the harm that comes from drugs is because they are illegal.

Abraham Lincoln:
A prohibition law strikes a blow at the very principles upon which our government was founded.

Abraham Lincoln:
Prohibition goes beyond the bounds of reason in that it attempts to control a man’s appetite by legislation, and makes a crime out of things that are not crimes.
