Robert Gibbs, a senior communications adviser to the Obama campaign, briefed reporters on the planne today. I just received this transcript as I am in London, having leap-frogged ahead due to requirements for live shots here.
This is the full transcript about the Obama camps perspective on the back-and-forth with the Pentagon about the canceled visit to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany.

I don't understand how General Gration didn't know the rules about no campaigning on military bases. I remember my brother talking about the rules of not being involved in political campaigns in uniform back when he was a lowly USAF 2LT.
My impression, they tried to pull one over and the Pentagon would have nothing to do with it. Now they are trying to lay blame on the Pentagon.
NO! Say it ain't so! Not Nobama... he wouldn't lie to us and try to blame the Pentagon, would he?
Typical Chicago Politics.
“Now they are trying to lay blame on the Pentagon.”
Maybe he’ll call his buddy Bill Ayers
I knew that when I was an Airman First Class in the Air Force in the 70’s.
I kind of think that Team Obama thought they’d just do what they wanted and got called on it. Backed down and then blamed the Pentagon.
“Gibbs: Given the information that we had received, Senator Obama had made the decision that we were not going to have wounded men and women become involved in a campaign event or one that might be perceived as a campaign event.”
What a load of BS. His intent was to bolster his image, not to pay respect to wounded warriors.
ya know— this entire back and forth could be handled with the right question....
“How many times has Senator Obama visited our wounded at Walter Reed, right there in Washington DC?”
see how simple this can be?
btw— I have called his office and asked them this very question. The woman answering the phone told me that she did not know, but would be happy to take any comments and pass them on.
So I asked her who WOULD know.
She put me through to a voice mail— waiting for a call back with the information....
He knew but as usual the Obama machine thinks they are above common law because, as everyone knows, Obama is the Chosen One!
“Q: Did it not occur to anybody that this might be viewed as a political stop?”
LOL. I was hoping one of the reporters had enough sense to ask this. You’d have to be brain dead to believe that they’ve had this planned for months and only suddenly realized that this might be viewed as a political stunt and would need to cancel to avoid that perception.
Thankfully, at least one member of the media realizes how ridiculous the Obama campaign’s explanation is.
VERY good.
Covering crap is hard work. Even then, the smell lingers on.
As a Senator has he ever made an appointment to West Point?
He’s been there at least three times.

Of course, the real question is, how many times did he go before announcing his run for president?
Jackass Jackson has already gotten to Obama. His actions reflect the result of his total “sissification”, something we don’t need in a Commander-In-Chief or our Leader. I know Europeans don’t like real men - cowboys - but this is America not Europe.
She put me through to a voice mail waiting for a call back with the information....
Ah, accountability. Has Obama ever had the thought: "Government by the People." Or don't Messiahs care about their "flocks?"
Pretty much says it all, he could go but without the hoopla.
Without reporters and photo ops, no point in visiting the troops.
It would also be an opportunity to see a reverse-Patton whereby an injured soldier slaps the crap our of Barry for being a coward and stinking up a place of honor, then send Barry to the front.
“Before” running for President is the real question. YOU WIN :)
Obamas staff is keeping his trip low-key. It is not on his public schedule, (ed: but in the press release, obviously) and his campaign would not confirm it. A pool of reporters will go with him, but will not accompany him inside.
From the Major Garrett transcript re Landstuhl:
Q: Did it not occur to anybody that this might be viewed as a political stop?
Gibbs: We had taken some of that into consideration, but we believed that it could be done in a way that would not create, it would not be created or seen as a campaign stop.
Q: The schedule was for this plane, with us in it, to fly to Ramstein. By the way we were expected to pay for the flight, what were you suppose to do with the entourage then?
Gibbs: You would have stayed on the plane.
Q: We would have stayed on the plane, would there have been any pool report?
Gibbs: there may have been, I dont know if we ever came to a decision on that.
Something of a contradiction?
