Robert Wexler residency probe sought (Noose tightens)

One of U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler’s election opponents is seeking state and federal investigations into the growing controversy surrounding his residency in Florida.

Former Broward Mayor Ben Graber will hold a press conference at noon at the Broward County Governmental Center. Graber, who is running against Wexler in November, wants investigations into whether Wexler violated Florida and Maryland tax and voter registration law as well as whether he has improperly used congressional housing benefits.

Wexler is Florida's only member of Congress who does not own a home in his congressional district. The Democratic congressman has admitted the only house he owns is in Maryland and that he uses his in-laws' home in a senior-only community in Delray Beach to meet residency requirements.

Records show Wexler sold his home in South Florida 11 years ago, the year he was sworn in to Congress. Later that year, he moved his wife, Laurie, two daughters and a son from their house west of Boca Raton to one in Maryland, which has been their home base since.

Wexler’s office said he does not use the housing write-off that members of Congress can receive on their taxes. Florida does not have income tax, and there is a federal law that no other state than the one that a congressional member represents can charge that person income taxes.

Wexler faces two opponents this year: Graber, running under no party affiliation; and Ed Lynch, running as a Republican. It was Lynch who brought the residency issue to light. It made it all the way to national TV, thanks to Fox News' Bill O'Reilly, who called Wexler's residency "a ruse" and questioned his ties to Florida.

To quote “Deep Throat” (who also lived in Maryland) “Follow the money.” In this case, the tax money Wexler the Weasel evaded paying (That’s evades - illegal v. avoided - legal)

Let me get this straight. Wexler lives in Maryland, but doesn’t pay Maryland state income taxes?

When are you people going to learn? The rules do not apply to Democrat politicians. They only apply to the peasants, and of course, to Republican politicians.

Wexler is a rat turd that runs around getting elected by scaring little old Jewish ladies in West Palm Beach that those nasty Republicans are going to take your medicaid and medicare and kick them out on the streets.
As a human he is worse than the likes of Chuckie Schumer and Jack Murtha.
I am so hoping this little problem of him not living in his district brings dishonor to his sorry pos butt.

Wexler is a ‘Rat, so his corrupt and felonious behavior is excused...because he's doing it “for the children.”

This and Alcee Hasting’s district are the safest Dem seats in Florida. If Adolf Hitler came back from the dead and ran as a Dem to replace Wexler, the BocaCrats will STILL vote for Der Fuhrer.

They crucified Rick Santorum and he actually did own a house in Pennsylvania, but his family lived in Virginia. A local Democratic official similarly filed a complaint against him and the press ran with it.

I lived in Maryland when I did a temporary gig in DC for 2 years during the Reagan administration.

I actually maintained a home elsewhere, didn't register my car in Maryland, or register to vote in Maryland. But yes, I paid Maryland taxes, and they weren't low. What consitutes a Maryland resident is a matter of statute and I don't see how he's not.

He's a crook if he's doing this.

Isn’t Wex the one who started the ‘chad’ thingy back in the 2000 election?

Wexler’s office said he does not use the housing write-off that members of Congress can receive on their taxes.

Ok..someone help me here.....does that mean Congress critters have a provision to write off paying taxes on their homes? Or he pays taxes to MD. but not to Fl?

Wexler is the one who got the ‘butterfly ballot’/hanging chad deal rolling back in 2000.

I think they get some sort of housing allowance to maintain a DC area residence AND one in their home state. Sounds like a nice deal.

He’s nothing but a friggin’ trial lawyer who cheats—no surprise.
If protecting his trial lawyer friends means he has to be an idiot liberal—then he is an idiot liberal. Friggin’ liar.

Don’t get too worked up over this. He’s a Democrat. This means he will be given an opportunity to rent an apartment in his home district, mend his tax filing, and proceed to get re-elected. I notice he already has a 3rd party stalking-horse in the election to make his re-election even more certain.
