Here is the political question of the morning: When is the term tar baby not a racial slur?
Answer: When a liberal Democrat uses it.
If youre a Republican and those two words pass your lips, stand by for a barrage, no matter what the context. Just ask Sen. John McCain or ex-Gov. Mitt Romney or late White House spokesman Tony Snow. Over the last couple of years, theyve all had to issue groveling apologies for mentioning the old Uncle Remus character. But that didnt stop outraged community leaders from tearing into them as arrogant and out-of-touch.

Which brings us to Sen. John Forbes Kerry, a recidivist user of the two bad words. He did it again Tuesday on MSNBC, and nothing happened. The outraged community leaders apparently couldnt be reached for comment. Have you seen a single headline or even a tiny item about this terrible racial slur on national television (if you can call MSNBC national television).
Heres what happened: Sen. Kerry was being interviewed by MSNBC reporter John Harwood. Liveshot was asked about McCains statement earlier that day in New Hampshire that Barack Obama would rather win a political campaign than a war.
Kerry began talking and talking and talking. You know the gasbag drones on. Liveshot is a one-man wind turbine. Finally, about a minute into it, he throws out the T-word:
So, I think John is trying to throw that big tar baby out there.
Tar baby? Why, why, why thats racist! Just to utter the phrase shows that hes a - oh wait, I forgot. John Kerry is a Democrat. Never mind. Needless to say, his friends in the mainstream media would never, ever utter a discouraging word about their hero, any more than they would mention Obamas description of the 57 states, or his service on the Senate Banking Committee (which he doesnt serve on).
Imagine the cacophony of moonbats on MSNBC if, say, Mitch McConnell had said that:
Chris Matthews: My leg is tingling, Keith. He didnt just say tar baby. He said big tar baby.
Keith Olbermann: Even OReilly wouldnt go that far! Lets play that again.
But just in case some mean-spirited type happened to overhear Kerrys racial slur, er, misstatement, the Kerry camp decided to issue a statement. They issued it on Daily Kos - I kid you not, the moonbat Web site.
How do I know this? Because Liveshots spokesman sent me a link to the statement, which, of course, didnt come from the extinguished statesman himself, but from one of his minions:
I just spoke to Sen. Kerry about this. He meant that McCain is throwing mud and hoping something sticks. He said it was an inappropriate and unartful phrase, and wanted to let all of you know right away that he shouldnt have used the term.
Disclaimer: Im Sen. Kerrys Internet Director.
And that was it. A non-apology apology, not from the senator, but from his Internet director. And only to the moonbats. The subsequent silence has been, well, deafening.
Im not suggesting that using the phrase tar baby is a mortal sin. Its not, anymore than using the word niggardly makes you a racist. Kerrys free ride on his PC faux pas is noteworthy only because of the contrast with what happens to Republicans who get caught.
Same thing with every kind of scandal. Sen. Bob Byrd uses the N-word on Fox and nobody mentions it, even though he used to be in the Ku Klux Klan.
And how many of you read about John Edwards narrow escape from National Enquirer reporters earlier this week in an L.A. hotel? Nothing, unless youve been surfing the Internet, or listening to talk radio. Even the liberal bloggers have been remarking on the remarkable silence on Edwards hypocritical tomcatting, as compared to the 24/7 coverage of Sen. Larry Craigs mens-room ramblings last year.
I guess I dont have to tell you that the difference between the two isnt so much sexual orientation as it is the word Democrat, which inoculates Edwards from the toxic reporting that doomed Craig, R-Idaho.
Oh, and by the way, this wasnt the first time Kerry used the dreaded slur, er, misspoke. Back in 2004, he was quoted in the Philadelphia Inquirer - another dying PC organ of the mainstream media - as saying that he was told taking up the POW-MIA issue would be a tar baby.
Of course he got away with it, which is why he said it again this week. Being a liberal means never having to say youre sorry. Just send out your Internet director to do it for you. It leaves ever so much more time for windsurfing off Nantucket.
Link is working fine.
Actually, it is their own fault if they apologized, they should have just told the MSM to shove it and that they had nothing to apologize for. A tar baby is like a Trojan horse and is not racial at all.
Howie Carr column ping.Ill post the weekly thread later this afternoon.
John F-ing Kerry = dolt
And it's also the same with white former Klan member senior senators who get a pass when they go on national television to demonstrate their evolved racial sensitivity by graciously acknowledging that not all "niggers" are black. (Where were the headlines and public outrage on THAT one?)
Great article, Howie Strikes Again!
Zipppeddoooooo da ,,, zipppedy- A ,, my oh my what wonderful day!!! RUN RUN for hills,,, its another offensive scary thing!
