I hate McDonalds but would happily go in and order sausage mcmuffins and mcribs everyday just to make them handle the pork.

That’s the next issue to come up. Muslims should not have to handle pork. It’s already happening in England with the women doctors and nurses objecting to not being allowed to cover their arms with clothing.

Can’t imagine it should have been an issue. They would just need an long sleeved version of the uniform and their headscarf. Isn’t employees’ hair supposed to be tied up or under a hat anyway? I’ve seen accommodations for Orthodox Jewish women who also cover their arms and often where something over their hair.
Apparently this McDonalds already serves Halal/Kosher food, I wonder if there was more to the story than was reported. Maybe they were rejected on some other basis and are just litigation happy? Maybe the manager did drop the ball.

WHEN McDonald’s if forced to hire them, they are going to be treated like royalty, which will include NOT being made to handle those nasty, heathenish pork products.

I'm pretty sure she wears like a tight fitting white thing to her wrists and wears latex/vinyl gloves.
I lived for three years in Senegal (about 85% Muslim). I lived in a 100% (except me) Muslim area It was as peaceful a place as I’ve ever been. I had exactly one person try to convert me and tell me I was wrong for being a Christian. Everyone else accepted me for who I was. I was there pre-9/11 but I am certain they would condemn terrorism
Admittedly, Senegalese Muslims are mainly Sufi and I am not blind to the evils of certain sects like Wahhabists who are murderous lunatic criminals. But painting with broad strokes misses a lot of subtlety.

These women aren't making a claim of discrimination, they are making a claim that they should receive special treatment because of their religious beliefs.
They don't appear to be claiming that the manager refused to hire them, just that he wouldn't let them wear their hijabs on the job.
We also haven't heard the manager's side of the story either.
How's this for subtlety: Sufis are considered apostates by the Whahabists; that's worse than being an Infidel!
Calling the Klan Christian mirrors calling Sufis Muslim. In each case they don't qualify!

I can appreciate your experience with the muslims, however the anectdotal evidence you have is outweighed by the fact that islam was founded by a pedophilic warlord who wrote a “holy book” based on hate that compels its followers to shun Jews and Christians....

Employers can require certain uniforms, but they are also required to make what is called a reasonable accomodation for religiously-based clothing requirements. So, if an employer just has a general "no-hats" rule for its employees, it probably has to allow Jews to wear yarmulkes, Muslim women to wear head-scarves, or Sikhs to wear turbans.
Certain considerations can override this, safety, for example- if a Sikh wants to work on a construction site, the employer can require him to wear a hard-hat even if that would require him to remove his turban. In a hospital setting, hygene rules for doctors and nurses will override religious clothing requirements.
These women very likely have a winning case here, unless McDonalds can show some reason why letting the women wear their headscarves goes beyond a reasonable accomodation.

I agree, companies can have reasonable dress codes. It’s like the Muslim taxi drivers in Minneapolis who would not drive anyone carrying alcohol. They need to compromise or find another line of work
