Obama and the case of the missing 'thesis'
MSNBC ^ | 7/24/2008 | Jim Popkin

Posted on 07/24/2008 11:35:54 AM PDT by Red in Blue PA

Bossie came up dry, but said the effort was well worth it. “A thesis entitled Soviet Nuclear Disarmament, written at the height of The Cold War in 1983, might shed some light upon what Barack Obama thought about our most pressing foreign policy issue for 40-plus years (U.S.-Soviet Relations),” he wrote in an e-mail to NBC News.

So what does the missing paper say, and could it be politically damaging to Obama?

The Obama campaign won’t offer any guidance since it says it doesn’t have a copy. Spokesman Ben LaBolt wouldn’t even say whether Sen. Obama threw out his copy or lost it.

I can just imagine:

I do not support the "Splurge", the massive increase in defense spending by the Reagan administration. The Soviets are the biggest supporters of the Soviets. I sincerely hope that the Soviets disarm. They can borrow my bus, which has more than enough road clearance for them to throw all of their weapons under. This goes for their 57 satellite states too.

surely a good commie like BO would justify that the Soviet Disarmament should occur after the unilateral US disarmament. The vapor trail left by this fraud is just amazing, no thesis, no birth cert, no votes, No Bama

You can guess what it says - Reagan was president, the Soviets were crumbling, what more would a leftie do but criticize the US and make dire predictions?

I am sure he painted a future picture of the world that would be laughable now, show his true beliefs, and demonstrate how bad his judgment is.

This might not be his thesis, but it is from an official Obama campaign ad.

Obama Pledges Cuts in Missile Defense, Space, and Nuclear Weapons Programs

February 29, 2008 :: News
MissileThreat.com

A video has surfaced of Presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama talking on his plans for strategic issues such as nuclear weapons and missile defense.

The full text from the video, as released, reads as follows:

Thanks so much for the Caucus4Priorities, for the great work you've been doing. As president, I will end misguided defense policies and stand with Caucus4Priorities in fighting special interests in Washington.

First, I'll stop spending $9 billion a month in Iraq. I'm the only major candidate who opposed this war from the beginning. And as president I will end it.[i.e. not win it]

Second, I will cut tens of billions of dollars in wasteful spending.

I will cut investments in unproven missile defense systems.

I will not weaponize space.

I will slow our development of future combat systems.

And I will institute an independent "Defense Priorities Board" to ensure that the Quadrennial Defense Review is not used to justify unnecessary spending.

Third, I will set a goal of a world without nuclear weapons. To seek that goal, I will not develop new nuclear weapons; I will seek a global ban on the production of fissile material; and I will negotiate with Russia to take our ICBMs off hair-trigger alert, and to achieve deep cuts in our nuclear arsenals.

You know where I stand. I've fought for open, ethical and accountable government my entire public life. I don't switch positions or make promises that can't be kept. I don't posture on defense policy and I don't take money from federal lobbyists for powerful defense contractors. As president, my sole priority for defense spending will be protecting the American people. Thanks so much.

Obama Promises to Dismantle Our Armed Forces
by Robert Maginnis
Posted 04/10/2008 ET

(Mr. Maginnis is a retired Army lieutenant colonel, a national security and foreign affairs analyst for radio and television and a senior strategist with the U.S. Army)

YouTube has an undated 52-second clip of Democratic presidential candidate Senator Barrack Obama outlining his plans for America’s national defense. Obama’s presentation demonstrates either total naivete about important national security programs or he is just pandering for votes among the extreme left.

Congressional Record--Appendix, pp. A34-A35

1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.

2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.

3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.

MIA-like his birth certificate. He’s lucky the mainstream media is following a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy when it comes to Obama.

I wrote my Honors thesis in 1980, and I do not have a copy of it.

How many of you other freepers have any college papers you wrote 20 plus years ago?

Shouldn't a copy of your thesis survive at your school?

Obama’s connections to so many horrible and anti-American organizations, individuals, and nations will come out.... after he has assumed the roll of Dictator of the US.

And by that time, the media will have absolutely no control over what they broadcast - they will then see the error of their ways.

It really depends on the school and what degree was being pursued. I don’t know many universities that keep undergraduate work. But Masters level work often does get retained in the library archives.

A thesis is not just a “college paper”. I have two copies of my thesis collecting dust on my book shelf. Really embarrassing stuff about Transcription factors and signal transduction! ;)

LOL. Stating a fact about my own paltry existence constitutes, in your mind, a defense of Obama? OK.

Go into any college or university library and tell the reference librarian what you want. He/she can order the thesis for you from University Microfilms. You will have to pay for it, though.
