At Hearing, Official EIB Clown Attacks Official EIB Climatologist
July 22, 2008

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: The official climatologist of the EIB Network, Dr. Roy Spencer, a brilliant independent climatologist and scientist, former NASA, he's now at University of Alabama at Huntsville, testified before Senator Boxer's committee on climate change research, and they had the following exchange.

SPENCER: In conclusion, I am predicting today that the theory that mankind is mostly responsible for global warming will slowly fade away in the coming years, as will the warming itself, and I trust you would agree, Madam Chair, that such a result deserves to be greeted with relief. That concludes my testimony, and I'd be willing to answer any questions.

BOXER: Okay. I also want to point out on that on your own blog you said you never were told you couldn't speak about your scientific views. And lastly, I guess is a certain congratulations, Rush Limbaugh referred to you as the official climatologist of the Rush Limbaugh Excellence in Broadcasting Network.

SPENCER: Yeah, that's tongue-in-cheek reference.

BOXER: Right. But I just want to point that out for people to understand. I just want to make sure everybody knows what's really happening.

RUSH: Oh, my, poor Dr. Spencer! Poor Dr. Spencer! Barbara Boxer attempts to disqualify his expertise by linking him to this program. Yes! (laughing) "I just want everybody to know what's really happening." What's really happening is that, what, did I write his testimony? Did I write his opening remarks? What happened, Senator? I'm going to make Barbara Boxer the official clown of the Excellence in Broadcasting Network. Can you believe this? Folks, I can't tell you how much I wish my mom and dad were alive to see all of this. To have a brilliant and independent scientist, a former NASA scientist, be insulted simply because he has an association, a tongue-in-cheek association. We don't have an official climatologist here. I just know Dr. Spencer and I learn from him. He's a scientist, a scientist that we all know and love and trust here. He's written a great book about global warming, and these snide little Democrats, these little liberals just have to go, eh, eh, eh. Dr. Spencer is now going to be more famous than he ever thought he would be. (laughing) Can you believe this? "I just want everybody to make sure they know what's really happening." What's really happening, Senator Boxer? What's really happening? (laughing) "I just wanted to point that out for people to understand." Yeah, like I wrote his testimony, I wrote his talking points, I even had a secret wireless communication in his ear. I was answering questions they were asking. (laughing) And Obama says there's going to be unity.

I'll agree she's a class "A" dummy, but I think she's smarter than John Murtha, if only barely.

Refreshing to hear from a climate scientist who's not a part of failed presidential candidate “Professor” Gore's carbon credits ponzi scheme. “Professor” Barbara Boxer has apparently received her degree in gratuitous, snide misdirection on the taxpayers time and dime. I suppose everybody should do what they're best at.

She's still not in the same league as Nancy "Falseface" Pelosi who holds the title of stupidest woman in Washington. Boxer is merely in the Ass-clown category compared to Nancy.

Well frankly, the decision process to figure out the dumbest congressunit would be tortuous, to say the least. I could see that process lasting several weeks. Yes, I agree Murtha is right up there, but Pelosi is lots more diabolical and Machiavellian than Boxer. Boxer is just a plain old dimwitted simpleton, in my view. Pelosi is much craftier. So I detest these folks quite vehemently, but Boxer is just a low-grade dope, not especially deserving of any deep analysis. IMO.

Dingy Harry doesn’t impress me with his brilliance either. Of course this could be a result of getting punched on the head to many times when he was a fighter. He would be a natural for Rockey XIV.., when Rockey is a hundred years old and can’t remember getting up that morning.

Inconvenient Testimony   [Chris Horner]

Yesterday, Dr. Roy Spencer testified before the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. [You can find a PDF of his testimony here.]

His comments were of no interest to the media, for the very simple reason that he said the "wrong" thing.

The career scientist's research (as opposed to quasi-religious enviro-dogma) reveals Earth's climate to be far less sensitive than those computer modelers assume in order to produce their alarmist scenarios — scenarios that, year in and year out, continue to be proven wrong by observations.

Excerpts of his testimony after the jump:

On the subject of the Administration’s involvement in policy-relevant scientific work performed by government employees in the EPA, NASA, and other agencies, I can provide some perspective based upon my previous experiences as a NASA employee. For example, during the Clinton-Gore Administration I was told what I could and could not say during congressional testimony. Since it was well known that I am skeptical of the view that mankind’s greenhouse gas emissions are mostly responsible for global warming, I assumed that this advice was to help protect Vice President Gore’s agenda on the subject. . . .

Regarding the currently popular theory that mankind is responsible for global warming, I am very pleased to deliver good news from the front lines of climate change research. Our latest research results, which I am about to describe, could have an enormous impact on policy decisions regarding greenhouse gas emissions. Despite decades of persistent uncertainty over how sensitive the climate system is to increasing concentrations of carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels, we now have new satellite evidence which strongly suggests that the climate system is much less sensitive than is claimed by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. . . .

If true, an insensitive climate system would mean that we have little to worry about in the way of manmade global warming and associated climate change. And, as we will see, it would also mean that the warming we have experienced in the last 100 years is mostly natural. Of course, if climate change is mostly natural then it is largely out of our control, and is likely to end — if it has not ended already, since satellite-measured global temperatures have not warmed for at least seven years now. . . .

Based upon global oceanic climate variations measured by a variety of NASA and NOAA satellites during the period 2000 through 2005 we have found a signature of climate sensitivity so low that it would reduce future global warming projections to below 1 deg. C by the year 2100. . . .

Obviously, what I am claiming today is of great importance to the global warming debate and related policy decisions, and it will surely be controversial. These results are not totally unprecedented, though, as other recently published research6 has also led to the conclusion that the real climate system does not exhibit net positive feedback. . . .

I hope that the Committee realizes that, if true, these new results mean that humanity will be largely spared the negative consequences of human-induced climate change. This would be good news that should be celebrated — not attacked and maligned. And given that virtually no research into possible natural explanations for global warming has been performed, it is time for scientific objectivity and integrity to be restored to the field of global warming research. This Committee could, at a minimum, make a statement that encourages that goal.

Do you know if or how Dr. Spencer responded specifically to Boxer’s insult?

I can’t imagine just taking a shot aimed at my veracity, professionalisim and accomplishment. It seems to me that the best way to get ripped a new A**hole would be to take such a shot at any guy who had a decent opinion of himself.

I must say I’d’a torn into her like she never had done to her before.

Good question. The best I can do is provide a link to the seven PDF pages of Dr. Spencer's prepared testimony here. I, too, would be interested in any give and take that may have ensued.

That's what those pompous Capitol hill windbags do to any decent person, e.g. General Petraeus,.

I must say I’d’a torn into her like she never had done to her before.

I've got a chronic case of congress contempt myself.

Boxer didn’t ‘happen’ in a vacuum. She had to be voted in by the people in her district. Just imagine, there are thousands of her ideological/mental(ly challenged) duplicates running around CA.

Here's a bit of exchange, from Rush Limbaugh's 24/7 website:

Roy Spencer Gets Promoted

RUSH: Yesterday the official climatologist of the EIB Network, Dr. Roy Spencer, a man of great esteem, flawless character, impeccable scientific credentials, former climatologist at NASA now working out of the University of Alabama at Huntsville, appeared before Boxer's committee to testify about global warming.  This exchange took place.

SPENCER:  In conclusion I am predicting today that the theory that mankind is mostly responsible for global warming will slowly fade away in the coming years as will the warming itself, and I trust you would agree, Madam Chair, that such a result deserves to be greeted with relief.  That concludes my testimony and I'd be willing to answer any questions.

BOXER:  I also want to point out that on your own blog you said you never were told you couldn't speak about your scientific views.  And, lastly, I guess as a certain congratulations, Rush Limbaugh referred to you as the official climatologist of the Rush Limbaugh Excellence in Broadcasting Network.
SPENCER:  Yeah, that's a tongue-in-cheek reference.

BOXER:  Right, but I just wanted to point that out for people to understand.  I just want to make sure everybody knows what's really happening.

RUSH:  What's really happening?  What is that, Senator Boxer?  What is really happening?  Did I coach Dr. Spencer, our official climatologist?  Isn't it you Democrats who do this?  Isn't it you Democrats who bring witnesses up and coach them, and you have, especially in judicial nomination hearings and so forth.  So once again this is a bit of a projection, Senator Boxer accusing our climatologist of being fraudulent and being coached by me, only because that's how they do it.  I sent Dr. Spencer a note last night telling him I was very proud of his comportment, deportment, the way he handled himself up there, job well done.  I have just promoted him to Vice President of the EIB Network/Climatology.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH:  You know, if Dr. Roy Spencer were a communist and he went up there and testified yesterday, Barbara Boxer would have defended him against anybody who pointed out that he was a communist.  But he wasn't called a communist.  He was called a collaborator with me.  And yet nobody stood up to defend (not that he needs it) Dr. Spencer.

I watched some of this on C-Span. Dr. Spencer was really good, but it was agonizing to have watch that little leftist POS Barbara Boxer insult him and attack his integrity. She’s not fit to be in the same room with him, never mind have the gavel and control over the hearing. UGH. She truly is scum. How do the Californicators live with themselves when they put such a clown into the US Senate?
