Same thing in Hawaii - gazillion pedestrians, lots of the elderly especially in older parts of the city that has grown up around them. Add twice as much traffic, pedestrians who think they’re still back in 1940, poor driver visibility early a.m. and late p.m. when the sun’s in your eyes, crosswalks without stoplights, and it’s a recipe for our rising pedestrian fatality rate.

Fox News Channel’s Shepard Smith ran over a Fox producer that was attempting to reserve a parking space for someone else.

I recall an article from some years ago that Novak was an aggressive driver and guilty of intimidating anyone in his path (or wake).

That is OK with me. I'm rather aggressive myself except that I always obey the rules, unless of course the reference is to the ridiculous speed limits on highways.

I hope it was the guy who gave him the McCain VP story.

Thanks, that was it. I didn’t remember who it was, but I was pretty sure it was a Fox celeb. Guess Shep had a bit of road rage.

One of the best South Park episodes ever.

Truly a favorite.....I still laugh like a crazy person even thinking about all the citizens running around in a panic and the old people drive into the top floors of houses. Just classic.

In the interest of open and honest discussion, many many moons ago, I was once given a free ride to the pokey for an infraction I may or may not have committed. I was also offered a seat up front with the nice officer. And no, I was never offered a pair of shiney new bracelets, either.

I've been in exactly your situation as well. But I got to wear the cuffs. The officer was very nice, though. Almost apologetic.

You can always tell the DC natives and close-by commuters from tourists. To those of us who live here, traffic lights don’t mean a thing. Honest.

Traffic lights? Pshaw! I've gotten to the point where I've started ignoring those traffic control idiots that "direct" (read, make even worse) traffic in certain intersections.

And I do it while checking my blackberry and drinking a latte.

He probably just panicked. Thought he might have just run over a large dog or deer.

If that's what he thought, then I fear he's going senile. Where this accident happened is downtown DC- about 3 blocks to the Whiter House. A large dog or a deer wandering the streets here would be unusual, to say the least.

you replied: DC is. The Alexandria area and Route 1 South of the beltway is thick with jaywalkers. It's like driving in a 3rd world country...probably because the jaywalkers came from 3rd world countries.

I believe I was sarcastically referring to the slime that inhabits the seat of government. ie congressmen, senators, lobbyists and all the other dirt bags who sucks on the teat of my tax dollars.

25 posts before someone wondered about the condition of the person he hit.

I agree with you. Hope person is ok.

Hit-and-run is definitely a story. The witness accounts show that the pedestrian had the walk sign.

I saw the TV interview with him after the incident. He was clearly lying about not seeing the guy.

If it was the pedestrians fault, why didn't Novak stop and render aid. It's not as if he didn't see the guy splayed on his windshield.

He at least needs to have a few months in jail and his license permanently revoked.

Ok, good point, but look at the number of witnesses. And look at Novak not stopping.

Guilty men run. Innocent men stay and render aid. Even guilty men with conciounses stay and render aid.

Multiple witnesses. Some of them on my cycling news group mentioned it. Face it - he hit the guy, he knew it, and ran.

I guess somebody has to do it now that Tom Lantos is no longer with us.
