Brought to you by none other than Baghdad Jim McDermott (D-WTF?). I mustve done something truly horrible in a former lifetime to be sentenced to live in this guys district. The proposed legislation is to create a new program along the lines of the federal food stamp program. The press release and proposed bill is here.
Some highlights:
Rep. Jim McDermott (D-WA), chairman of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Income Security and Family Support, introduced legislation today to provide financial assistance to vulnerable Americans struggling to survive under crushing gasoline prices.Found via Dori Monson. The Emergency Gasoline Assistance Act (H.R. 6561) would create a program to provide $5 billion to states as a one-time grant with the money designated to provide assistance to families of modest means to purchase gasoline. This program could provide every family that is currently living below the federal poverty threshold with $500 in assistance. State governors would have the flexibility to use the money to create programs that target the specific needs of their communities.
Criminy - it’s getting hard enough to pay our taxes, heat the house, pay the mortgage and feed the kids. We’ll have to bail out Fannie and Freddie and now gas stamps????
This is insane. Don’t need this crap and the associated overhead - just kill the federal taxes on gasoline
Cheers!
It’s not enough welfare pays for taxi cabs for the impoverished to go play bingo, now they will get $500 worth of free gas stamps to take that beamer they have in their garage.
what about thier “carbon footprint? shouldn’t they be encouraged to take a bus? How about rik-shaw stamps?
If you do that us rich middle class folks and even more evil uber-rich won’t have to pay federal gas taxes either.
Don’t you remember that taxes are punitive? Can’t stop punishing the rich and those in the middle.
Oh man....maybe I should just divorce hubby and go on the public roll....
Seriously, this is ridiculous! I will get fired up about this one and lose my reluctance of phoning consistently and constantly for months on end.
I think it’s time for that civil war that the DemocRATS have been so desperately craving.
Does this mean that the gas stations are going to be SUPER busy at the first of every month, while I stand in a long line behind a bunch of poorly dressed fat asses who are filling their tanks with high octane while I’m buying a half tank of regular unleaded?
“Who is going to pay for this program”?
Well, with liberals, hubby is replaced with government, right? Either a God-blessed partnership with a spouse for life, or dependent on the faceless, DMV-style government for life.
Sorry, don’t mean to drag ya down.... smile! :)
(And give your husband a kiss!)
Why, the taxpayer, of course.
YAY! MORE CRACK STAMPS. Twice as much crack for every parasite in America. Forget twice - these babies will go for more than 50 cents on the dollar.
More people dependent on bigger government for more things, plus bonus acclimation to ration card-like concepts. And a nice fat guaranteed income handout from the hardworking taxpayer to the gas companies.
“poorly dressed”
Not in Milwaukee. They are the ones with designer clothes, hair and nails done.
Buying votes with other people money. Typical Rat.
Why doesn’t Jihad Jim just go to Caracas and fellate Hugo for free oil? It’s good enough for New Hampshire...
who are you kidding with the poorly dressed. They have better cloths and better cars than you will ever dream.
And before the PC police comes gets me...about 15 years ago i had a friend i had to take down to one of the worst parts of houston to get their food stamps. I had a 2 tone car because i coudn’t afford to get the door painted after someone hit and ran on the car. Long story short the other people there all had brand new caddy and lexus and enough gold to fund the country. That was the day i stopped being a liberal kumbya kinda person. It is very eye opening and will make you so mad your head will explode.
So now lets give gas to people who don’t work. Where can i sign up for the revolution.
