WASHINGTON - The music will be rising into a crescendo, the hall glowing with red, blue and white stars, confetti at the waiting, when Utah delegates take the microphone in the nomination of John McCain for the president and cast their ballots for Mitt Romney.

Of course I’ve heard these stories before but never heard about any state following through.

What if Romney is McCain’s VP?

They would essentially be voting for Romney for President and against him as VP?

Weird stuff!

All that work for Obama and McCain.. all that press coverage.

And it ends up being Hillary against Mitt.

Romney on Hillary: "Hillary Clinton is very much right, it does take a village, and we are a village
and we need to work together in a non-skeptical, non-finger-pointing way..."

But won’t it be interesting.. because they’re still voting for him for PRESIDENT.

Despite the fact that he suspended his campaign.

Normally the delegates are committed for the first pass. Then they frequently change as the second and third ballots go by, if they are needed. This isn’t unusual.

The V.P. is officially nominated later on, and the delegates vote to affirm.

Ohhhh

I’ve heard of these reports before of states going their own way.

But like you said it probably won’t ever go all the way through.

It’s not interesting. It’s just the rules. The delegates are committed to those who won them. We don’t change the votes simply because we know who will win.

After some delegation (probably Arizona as his home state, but maybe some other “important” state will get the nod) gives McCain a majority of delegates in the role call, what could happen is someone will make a motion to suspend the roll call and move to elect McCain “by acclamation”.

But maybe they will do the entire roll call so every state gets to vote.

"nothing could make me happier than to have Hill and Mitt nominated at the conventions."

Yeah, and then maybe McCain could kick the bucket after he gets elected (But before he rams his amnesty bill through, "takes back" the oil companie's profits, or wastes millions on "alternate" energy.)

Remember past conventions when the home state of the nominee abstains, and they come back to them when they can put the candidate over the top?

It’s normal for the votes to go for Romeny, Thompson, Huckabee, and McCain, then as you get down near Vermont, they’ll revert to Arizona, and it will put him over the top. Then the remaining states will announce their delegates votes.

Then a motion is made, and all delegates vote for the winner to make it unanimous.

The process does get a little fuzzy in four years doesn’t it. I had to give it some thought.

The best thing that could happen at this point then is if McCain picks Romney as the VP.

Since McCain has the nomination wrapped up. Unless McCain does something really dumb.

I think it would be fun to go to a GOP Convention.

Although I’m not sure how much excitement I could muster up for McCain lol.

I’m voting for McCain because I don’t want Obama in the White House.

Other than looking like idiots for being so obvious about the what and why of their actions, no it won't be interesting...

What would bother me, is seeing people absolutely giddy about McCain. I know a lot of folks are going to vote for him because the alternatives are bleak, but watching folks go weak kneed over him would cause me to break out in the hives. LOL

I’ll be happy if he picks Romney.

If he picks somebody else I’ll probably still vote for him.. but my excitement would be lower.
