Michael Savage, the incendiary radio host who last week characterized nearly every autistic child as “a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out,” said in a telephone interview Monday morning that he stood by his remarks and had no intention of apologizing to those advocates and parents who have called for his firing over the matter.
“My main point remains true,” Mr. Savage, whose radio audience ranks in size behind only those of Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, said in an interview on Monday. “It is an overdiagnosed medical condition. In my readings, there is no definitive medical diagnosis for autism.”
On his program lastWednesday, Mr. Savage suggested that “99 percent of the cases” of autism were a result of lax parenting. He told his audience: “They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life.“ He added, “Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’ ”
Asked Monday if he actually believed that 99 out every 100 cases of autism was misdiagnosed, Mr. Savage conceded that figure was “a little high.” “It was hyperbole,” he said.
But he said he was proud to have prodded discussion on the subject, and planned to give over his entire show on Monday — broadcast live from northern California from 3 to 6 p.m. Pacific time — to parents and other callers who wished to disagree with him, and to educate him.

I took care of a profoundly autistic toddler in foster care. Believe me, autism is no “fad” and is 100% legitimate. And another thing, with the right therapy(occupational/speech), these children can become functional.

Nowadays, Der Weiner mostly relies on telling non-political stories from his past in a New York accent. I chuckle when I often hear the pathetic fawning callers beg him to tell more stories. However, "Hush Bimbo" better not stray from talking politics, or Weiner will accuse him of not being Conservative enough and getting off topic. He can't help himself on these kind of outbursts though.
Like I always say about Weiner, this is a guy who doesn't use his real name, but has the chutzpah to spew made up names against people he should be aligned with, which in itself raises suspicions about his radio persona, "conservative talk show host".

Why are you “going ballistic”? I don’t remember Savage saying that all children diagnosed with autism are faking it....I DO remember him saying that many of the children diagnosed with autism are MISdiagnosed and probably don’t have full blown autism or anything near it.
A big difference in statements there....two different subjects in fact.
Then don’t listen to him at all, you know, free will and all that.
I enjoy posting back to Weiner fans the grossly embarrassing things he does and says. We can include you on these posts if you like.
However, I do welcome my local radio station to shit-can this faux conservative for the real deal during that same time slot...Mark Levin.
With more idiocy spewing from Weiner, the sooner my dream will come. I encourage Weiner to tell all of us his views on mental retardation, AIDS and other topics in which he doesn't hold degrees in.
Right. What is it about today's culture? Everything is like some kind of fad. In the 80's it was the O-zone and ADD. Now its global warming and autism. Suddenly everybody's got autism? Somethings wrong somewhere and I think Savage smells a rat.

Sure, but telling a perseverative autistic child to shut up is far from what I was talking about. Likewise, many posters here see discipline as spanking. Autistic kids don't learn the same messages from spanking that neurologically typical children do. So we'll agree to disagree over whether I was disagreeing.

Well, yes he is, since he is wrongly stating that 99% of kids diagnosed with autism are not autistic, he is lumping in a lot of genuinely autistic kids in that group of "fake" autistic children.
Explain to me how I am severe ADHD and now my son is as well and it not be genetic???

My son is pulling out his hair in front, so I screamed at him in my best Weiner imitation, “KNOCK IT OFF, PUNK! I KNOW YOU’RE JUST FAKING IT! YOU JUST WANT ATTENTION! NOW STRAIGHTEN UP AND BE NORMAL!”
He stared at me blankly, did a little echolalia, and skipped away. But I know I got through and change is on the way.
