Petitioners have succeeded in moving a measure that would effectively decriminalize prostitution in the city of San Francisco to the Nov. 4 ballot.
While prostitution is unlawful under the California Penal Code, the measure if passed by voters would ban the San Francisco Police Department from allocating any financial resources for the investigation and prosecution of sex workers on prostitution charges.
Section four of the ballot measure under the heading "Prostitution Shall Be Decriminalized" further states that the city, county, and district attorney "shall not subject sex-workers to life long economic discrimination associated with having a criminal record."
San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris criticized the measure, unofficially titled "Enforcement of Laws Related to Prostitution and Sex Workers." Harris told the San Francisco Chronicle, "This measure is nothing more than a welcome mat for prostitutes and pimps to come and hang out in San Francisco."
Proponents of the measure are claiming it is needed to give sex-industry workers equal protection under the law and to counter an alleged long-standing cronyism between dance club owners and key decision makers that has resulted in police cracking down on some prostitution outlets but looking the other way from popular nightclubs, even when the clubs were accused of sexual abuses by workers.
Maxine Doogan, founder of the Erotic Service Provider's Union, wrote in an email reported by the Chronicle, "Workers would like it if crimes like rape, robbery, theft and coercion were vigorously investigated and prosecuted. We want the right to make reports of crimes against us without being retaliated against by the police department."
According to the ESPU, the petition to have the measure put on the ballot received 12,763 signatures, 5,000 more than are required.

The logic or should I say illogic is to enforce the law by legalizing an immoral act that typically attracts scum who commit other crimes.
The first is the use of federal and state funds to reduce human trafficking, particularly of illegal immigrants, into the sex trade
In other words this proposal would turn those who are criminals just by being in this country into victims.
While their at it, city officials should legalize other crimes. That way S.F. can declare itself a crime free city.

24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship" and a violation of free speech and free press.
26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."
38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat].

Although I'm an evangelical Christian, I've wondered if maybe perhaps cities had a red light district-one where prostitution and drug usage is legalized, but heavily regulated and taxed. Make an agreement with the owners of the brothels and drug dens-no violence, no ripping off customers, and if they try to recruit or do business outside the red light district, their butts go to prison for a long time. In return, they get to ply their trade without police trying to break up their businesses.
I though prostitution was already legal in SF. It was legalised the same time public fornication and of disgusting acts were allowed. (/s)
I wonder if someone can make a bill authorizing that?
The world’s oldest profession.
I don't care if a woman is a whore and if a guy gets some nasty STD, the government should not be involved in their health care. They are free to get themselves in it, and it is their responsibility to clean up afterwords.
For the record, I am happily married, and am not going to break my promise to be faithful to my wife.
None of that is a thought which an evangelical Christian would entertain.
"You must not love this passing world or anything that is in the world. The love of the Father cannot be in any man who loves the world, because nothing the world has to offer -- the sensual body, the lustful eye, pride in possessions -- could ever come from the Father but only from the world; and the world, with all it craves for, is coming to an end; but anyone who does the will of God remains forever." (1 Jn.2:15-17).
Let the Clintons do for prostitution in CA what they have
done in New York.
The bible doesn’t say to rip people from sinful lives with force and throw them in jail if they don’t follow the bible.
Unless I missed that chapter...
If it's subjected to extra taxes, the government will encourage it to raise revenue. For the children of course. That's what government revenue is always for, right?
A few years ago my then 80 year old mother was at a town meeting in a small coastal resort town in Maine. The town was having a problem with hookers. She stood up and told the town council that she didn't like having it around but, because it was the oldest profession, they had two choices, They could legalize it, inspect it and TAX it or forget about it because whatever they did it was going to be around.
I didn’t say I approve of it, I just said that it’s there anyway so why not have it where it can be seen?
What? You think a there is a clientele for a working girl to make a living in San Francisco? ..well, maybe if she strapped on.
I remember the pictures from the Folsom Street Fair where public nudity and public sex by homosexual men was the order of the day while San Franscico's finest just watched with excitement.
This is about homosexual men wanting to pick up an cheap 18 yr old boy on the corner and take him to a public toilet for a night on the town without being harassed.
Such a vote could potentially legalize California government.
Tell me, as a evangelical Christian, how do you feel about abortion clinics?
Personally, I'd like them shut down, and I'd like laws declaring the practice illegal. I'm guessing that you disagree.
We have LAWS that rip people from their sinful lives and throw them in jail.
San Fran elected a Ho as their Congress Person. They may as well make it legal.
Good for them. I hope the rest of the nation follows their example.
Why should the average American be denied the right to engage in activities that most politicians and government employees practice on a daily basis, screw the people and take their money?
