Why McCain Must Win
canadafreepress.com ^ | 07/19/08 | Bruce Walker

President McCain in 2000 I must be one of the few conservative writers in cyberspace who never feared a McCain presidency. When Senator McCain looked like he might win the Republican nomination in 2000, I asked what, exactly, my friends were so worried about. McCain was honest, like Bush, while Clinton and Gore were steeped in moral slipperiness. McCain was pro-life, like Bush, while Clinton and Gore were pro-abortion. McCain, like Bush, supported a strong military, while Clinton famously “loathed” the military and Gore followed him like a trained poodle. McCain’s ACU (American Conservative Union) voting record is conservative and was even more conservative in 2000. Who did I favor for the nomination in 2000? Bush, because I liked him more and I thought he would win, but was I afraid of a McCain presidency? No, I was afraid that the nation could not survive a third Clinton term. Has anything happened in the last eight years to change my mind? Not, not really. September 11, 2001 has driven all politics since then, even energy (remember how recently gasoline was cheap?) and while I can conceive of McCain handling the war on terror differently, in some ways, than Bush, I cannot see either man being particularly better than the other. Although we are sometimes loath to admit it, McCain appeared more prescience than Bush on Iraq: McCain supported the Surge, asked for the Surge when Bush was reluctant, and McCain was dead right. The Left would have vilified President McCain just as it vilified President Bush and for the same reasons: It wants America to lose all its wars.

I'm beginning to believe that McCain will be able to accomplish more (for the LEFT) than Obama who will be fought at every level.

Of course. After all, McCain has 25 years more experience than Obama at the art of warmly and graciously accommodating the "opposition".

As long as all of these McCain-bots will continue to act as salesmen and apologists for John-boy's liberal policies and are unwilling to fight against him, I'm beginning to believe that McCain will be able to accomplish more (for the LEFT) than Obama who will be fought at every level.

Its not even about fighting against juannie at this point...its about doin what correct in Spirit...ie, voting 'FOR' something...positive energy so to speak...

way back when that was my assesment of Ruuuuudie, [seems like years ago] vs the Bitch...at that point I considered voting for her [enemy in front rather than in camp] or sitting out... till speaking with a FReeper who candidly spoke w/me about the fearongering for what it was. I saw the game & went back to God's peace, since then its been all pretty clear...

we cant change His Will with all this banter, but we may rescue a few patriots from eating their pistols in fear/frustration...

“Just like the old days, FO. Go Arnold! /s”

Your childish accusations are becoming tiresome. I told you before I don’t know what you are talking about but you are continuing with these personal insinuations. I am not going to bother to keep answering you.

Next you’ll be accusing me of being behind every person posting on FR who doesn’t want Obama to win.

Whoever this FO person was, you must have been terrified of him.

Norman - I've noticed a definite and disturbing pattern with those of you who "support the GOP or die". The pattern is this -

1. Shriek, shriek, shriek, that if we don't support the GOP and their best of the worst leftist, that we're all going to go to hell and burn in the everlasting fire of leftism.

2. Ignore vast quantities of evidence against your shrieking to the point of requiring that you suspend rational thought. Immediately following this, you accuse us of supporting Obama, Clinton, or whoever your designated enemy is at the time, and then tell us that we're an enemy of the Republic, and have no right to be called conservatives.

3. When we finally tell you to go to hell (metaphorically speaking), you take offense and complain to an authority, apparently because you didn't get preferential treatment.

Whether or not you realize this, you and those like you are following some very disturbing patterns which are followed to the TEE by every leftist in this country that comes to mind at the moment. ...and yes, I understand that you didn't complain to the Admin Mod at this point. At least I don't think you did. Not that it matters much.

Did it not occur to you that it's personally insulting for you and those like you to tell us outright that we're Obama supporters? If you want to be technical about it, I paid you a compliment. I said that you were a lot smarter than I originally thought. Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know that is a very sarcastic thing to write, and I probably could have dropped the level of sarcasm about 300%. But you have to understand that these discussions digress very quickly, and your side is usually first to digress to getting personal with the note that we're Obama supporters. If you and yours will quit this particular pet peeve of ours, then we'll stop telling you that you're stupid. Both sides in this issue are guilty of hurling personal insults. It's a personal issue. If you or anybody else wants to drag the Admin Mods into this, then go for it.

I'm going to actually try to tell you something here that might help. I haven't done this in awhile, and some time back I swore that I wasn't going to say these sorts of things again, because they're difficult to accept and generally aren't worth the effort on my part. But perhaps it will once again help you or somebody else.

First off, myself and everybody like me understands your concerns. We really do. This nation is on the precipice of disaster. I personally believe that the disassembly of the Republic has been accelerated and that we're in a very grave time politically.

But the sad and unfortunate fact is that the GOP has abandoned us. People have a hard time with this because the alternative is difficult as well. People by nature will take the path of least resistance. Given the choices that we have, our choice is not the path of least resistance. In fact, it's very uncertain, and admittedly not at all "safe". But then, we're not "safe" sort of people. It's difficult to admit that our beloved GOP has morphed into the same basic entity as our political enemy. If you think that I myself haven't had time digesting this, then you're wrong. It's a terrible and fearful revelation. But it's something that must be acknowledged and dealt with appropriately. But the question of how to deal with it is a good one indeed!

How do we deal with it? Well, for starters, let's go back to when Duncan Hunter couldn't muster support within the GOP. This is when it became overtly obvious that we were being played. I saw it, as did too many others to count. At that time, there was time to reorganize and tell the GOP that we simply weren't "going along" with them. It was at this point that it became obvious that we were simply livestock in a giant herding operation. We tried to point this out, but folks like yourself absorbed the fear mongering from the GOP like a sponge and reacted accordingly. Enough time has now passed that it's going to be tricky indeed to turn anything around in our favor. You've been distracted for too long, and time was of the essence.

We've been played. The only real problem we have with your group is that you won't admit to it, much less realize it. Most of what we tell you is simply predictable through observation. Call it self fulfilling prophesy if you will. That's rather akin to what it is. We're not supporting leftists, GOP or otherwise. We never have, and we never will. Neither your shrieking, nor accusations of us supporting the enemy, or your complaints to authorities will change this. In this we are unbending. However, we fully understand the gravity of the situation. We understand that our actions will most likely equate to a protest vote, which will almost certainly offset the balance to a Democratic party majority. But this is (in our opinion) only because of those who continue to cling vainly to the GOP, thereby robbing us of our full strength.

For us, this is a moral issue. It's wrong to support leftists in any form, no matter who endorses them. In this case, the GOP is now endorsing leftists, and that's unacceptable to us.

The entire history of what lead us to this point seems a rather textbook issue of betrayal between a political party and its core support group. In a way, I really admire the GOP for the manner in which they have orchestrated this massive scam. They've distanced and alienated their core support group, while convincing those remaining to support them through a campaign of fear. However, I don't believe that they correctly factored in the number of former GOP core supporters who will protest through a third party vote, or (hopefully NOT) just stay away from the polls this November. It causes one to suspect that perhaps the GOP has made a deal with the DNC behind the scenes to concede to the DNC! I know good and well this sounds conspiratorial, and has no basis in verifiable fact, but it does cause one to wonder.

We're running out of time, and of course you and yours can continue to support John McCain. We're merely warning you of what's going to happen because of it. At a minimum, I'd like for you to stop with the accusations that we're a bunch of Obama supporters and come to terms with your responsibility as we have solemnly and fearfully come to terms with ours. Consider what I've said here and the fact that we're running dangerously short on time, and that unless you and yours bend and move quickly, the outcome will be (much to the disappointment of ALL of us), a Democratic President. Your side and our side will ensure that this becomes a reality, and we will ALL bear equal portions of responsibility in the outcome.

I still hold fast in the observation that the majority of those who support McCain are driven by fear alone. If we distance ourselves slightly from the entire dreadful scene, there is really only ONE logically correct decision, and it does NOT include voting for ANY leftist, GOP or DNC!

I almost hate to use the term, but the option here, given the present circumstances is to punt! With the difference being of course that we're going to trust the Lord just before we do so!

One team, one fight, folks...the other side is laughing their “collective” arses off right now at our infighting.

Every one with a conscience must do as their conscience dictates...however, given the choice between a candidate who is dedicated to overthrowing our country from within, a country that GAVE HIM EVERY OPPORTUNITY TO SUCCEED at the expense of others, a country that he gave NOTHING to, did not sacrifice ANYTHING for, but instead did his very best to detract from and subvert while following his perverted ideologies - and a candidate who was captured and tortured by the SAME IDEOLOGICAL PEOPLE as the first candidate, while trying to PRESERVE and DEFEND that same country, the choice would seem clear to me.

Do what you believe is right, either way.

I am not a big fan of McCain; but reality being what it is, this is where we are RIGHT NOW. I cannot, in good conscience and faith, NOT support him and let OComma get in there and run amok with his agenda and the truly awful people that he has pulling his Muppet strings...the baggage he brings, will be the bill that my kids will have to pay. I can’t do that.

Either way, whatever you decide, we have a bigger, common enemy ahead of us at the end of the day.

Concentrate on taking back Congress. THAT is where the battles will be fought. What bills get through and make it to the President’s desk can do us terrible harm...the SCOTUS appointments are HUGELY important - witness the closeness of the Heller decision a few weeks back. For the first time in over 70 years, the SCOTUS took a Second Amendment case and decided in favor of the INDIVIDUAL RIGHT of the citizen. By 5-4...that alone should make your hair stand up...4 SCOTUS judges think you have NO right to defend yourself. And it depended on ONE man, on the mood he woke up with...

Then there’s the Senate...with a 60-seat majority, the DemComs can sign us over and bind us to treaties with the UN and other international marxists. You want that? You want the ICC? You want a global Tax on American citizens to pay for Somalian or Zimbabwean unemployment? You want an international gun ban, enforced by UN troops (read that - American troops in UN berets)?

We’re THAT close right now; the other side knows it. Our side doesn’t. Our side is whining because McCain isn’t conservative enough. The other side is just grinning and rubbing their hands in glee.

What kind of judges will OComma appoint? More radical commies like Ginsburg? Bet on it.

Smoke and mirrors, distractions all...and the glittery thing behind the smoke is a sharp knife blade speeding towards our national kidneys...

Hirehand, your words are powerful, and thought-provoking...I agree with much of it.

That being said, I can’t just, stay home, and let OComma walk off with it.

Your point of our being played in something that I’ve felt for a long while now, and the comment about the RNC and the DNC conspiring is chilling...

As I’ve said, each must do as his conscience dictates. I respect your opinion and choice as if it were my own.

At the end of the day, there will still be the same intractable, implacable enemy waiting to cut our throats...
LFOD indeed...

I appreciate your words, and personally I've always held you in high regards for many of the things you've written that I've been pinged to.

I can't fault anybody for deciding to support McCain, when I myself have done the equivalent of "punting" simply because I view the options as being so limited.

People like yourself are calm, and convincing. You realize the trouble we're in. Like me, you are staring it in the face and you don't like what you see either.

However, I take exception with those who follow the pattern of "Shriek...Lash Out...Cry Foul" They aren't helping anything and they aren't able to see clearly when clarity of vision is imperative!

I want to add that personally, I've never advocated staying home! That's (IMHO) the worst thing to do! In fact, I believe that "somebody" has intentionally attempted to keep a great many at home!

Thanks for the "word"! I appreciate it! :-)

NFHale...all of yer concerns have been duly pondered and the decision [for the moment] has been made with all those factors in mind...

You said before 'we are on the same team'...I agree and appreciate your opinions and the fact that you allow ours as well...so long as we realize where the ultimate fight/enemy lies, we can and will succeed [by Gods Grace] eventually, it will most likely be painful no matter which road we take...

But IMHO, we ALL are being led [whether we realize it or not] down a path of 'lessons learned' when its all said and done...the personal choices and directions of our heart will ultimately decide the battle lines...then we will come together and itll be 'game on'...

for all the lurkers/shriekers...

THIS is how to have dialog regarding differing opinions...

Terrific post as usual, hiredhand. Reflects my thoughts exactly.

Over the past few years, I have been upset with a lot of Bush policy. I would gripe about it. I would get hit head on by those that very meanly threw my gripes back in my face. Their premise was, “since you voted for Bush twice, you were, or should have been aware of his policy on issues. You have a lot of nerve griping now, why did you vote for him? Were you stupid?”

It is bizarre that now, when I have informed myself, watched McCain over the years, and have decided that I cannot support him, that I am being flamed for exactly what I was flamed for when I blindly wasn’t sure where Bush stood years ago, and then went ahead and voted just because he was GOP.

It is telling that certain people want to have it both ways. They are really encouraging people to be sheeple. Mindless robots who do what they are told.

These are odd times. I have decided to do what I believe to be right. It may not please everyone else, but it is my decision. I feel good with it.

Thank you for your reasoned, sensible posts. I look forward to reading them.

I appreciate your kindness, but I really don't like writing things like that. It's frightening to point out the reality of the situation, even to me!

I feel like I'm standing at a distance watching a giant train wreck in slow motion...and it's still happening, and I'm still watching. It's almost as if we simply aren't permitted to be "participants" to any great effect in changing the situation. Worse than this, when we try to warn people away, they turn and hiss at us and accuse us of wrongdoing.

It's a desperate, and strange situation for sure!

Nobody ever said it would be easy, brother. When the situation sucks, real people stand up.

We all wish it would be different...but we’re here now, today. Times are thrust upon us, and we’re thrust into the middle whether we want it or not.

And we ARE sufficient for the day...

Will post more from home, later.

Keep the faith, all.

As repulsive as McCain is (I still think it’s very likely he’ll lose, no matter who he chooses for VP)... the alternative is just too awful... This could change, but as of now, I plan on voting for this jerk, cause he’s much better than the other jerk.
