Moonies founder 'hurt in crash'

The founder of the controversial Unification Church, better known as the Moonies, has been hurt in a helicopter crash in South Korea, reports say.

Rev Sun Myung Moon, 88, was among several people on the aircraft when it made an emergency landing at Gapyeong, 40km (25 miles) east of Seoul.

News agencies quoted officials as saying Rev Moon's injuries were slight.

The casualties were taken to Cheongshim Hospital, which is owned by the Church, Yonhap news agency reported.

A police spokesman said that the helicopter had been carrying Rev Moon, his wife Han Hak-Ja, 11 relatives and three crew members when it ran into difficulties in heavy rain and came down on a hillside at Gapyeong, AFP news agency reported.

Burst into flames

A 38-year-old woman on board was seriously injured as the helicopter burst into flames on landing, AFP said.

Police and witnesses said the crash happened in a mountainous area near the hospital at about 1710 (0810 GMT), the agency said.

South Korea's CBS radio said Rev Moon and his wife were given MRI scans for possible back injuries and moved to a VIP room.

A spokesman for the South Korean transport ministry said that the Sikorsky S-92 helicopter had made the landing after encountering bad weather.

The Church, which is officially called the Family Federation for World Peace and Unification, was founded in Seoul in 1954.

It has followers in about 200 countries, its officials say.

In April, Rev Moon's son, Hyung Jin Moon, 28, succeeded his father as the Church's most senior leader.

Reminds me that I've been looking for a good Dentist for awhile now, but I'm discouraged by the list of names provided by the Dental Insurance provider. Most are scary names from far away places with accreditation from Dental Schools one might picture in ones mind having dirt floors, and an assortment of very scary looking vice grips.

I do not see them around any more. I think some places banned the Moonies a long time ago.

At one time, we had a local strip mall that was loaded with them, and they became quite a nuisance, albiet a low-key one.

I never drink and drive.

The only time I did was years ago, when an old Ford I had bought for five cents a pound suffered an airconditioning failure in the middle of a horrible heat wave. I was parched and sweating and dehydrated, and on an impulse, since I was only a mile or two from from home, did something terrible, in retrospect. I went into a package store and bought a big can of Foster's and downed it.

I was sitting there somewhat surprised at how drunk it made me feel, when the ugliest woman I had ever seen came up to my window. I saw the Unification Church ID badge, and on an inspiration, jumped out and started screaming, "YES! I will buy your candy when you tell me what you have done with my sister!!!

WHERE IS MY SISTER??? WHAT HAVE YOU DONE WITH HER??"

She beat a hasty retreat. Some onlookers laughed, some stared.

I got home fine, though, but still feel a bit ashamed.

Several years ago wifey and I took a non-driving lady to visit her husband at a Kaiser hospital in Los Angeles.....when we left, we both commented that it felt like we were departing Bombay.

The Moonies are creepy, creepy, creepy. I know someone that got caught up in that stuff. They actually needed to get “de-programed.”

IIRC, the massive growth of the Moonies here in the 80’s was the main reason cult de-programming became into being.
I had a few who lived nearby me nearly 25 years ago, kept trying to recruit me. The word creepy is not enough to describe those lost souls.
