Click on the link for a great video report on the attempt by Democrat Rep. James Oberstar and unions to shut down the 1926 passenger steamboat Delta Queen, which sails America's inland rivers.
It should be called “save the Delta Queen from the union”

This would be a real shame to lose such a national treasure.
One of the things Jane and I admired when we toured England and Ireland back in the early 90s was the respect that Europeans have for their antiquities and national treasures.
This is just another reason why the 9%ers have lost contact with us We the Peoples. The 9%ers can’t quite give us a tiny little bit of credit for not setting a boat on fire while we’re on it.
We watched this 9%er in a discussion on FoxNews yesterday. He said he’s never even been approached by the Save the Delta Queen group to “discu$$” the matter.
Time for the good guys to gain control of the House again.
It’s a beautiful ship. Whenever it docks at the Port of Davenport, IA, we try to go down to see it.

These tours are also EXPENSIVE. I would love to go but for 3,000 plus. Maybe when I retire. Sigh.
Yes, no bargains this year as they are only running the American Queen and Delta Queen. The Mississippi Queen is docked. Current prices start at about 2,000PP for a seven day cruise.
All 3 boats are for sale. They sold to Delaware North in 2003 for about 90 million and then last year to Ambassadors for about 45 million. We can only pray for a good outcome.
Most passengers are elderly folks as they are the ones with the time and money. River cruises will always be more expensive than the big Caribbean cruise ships because 1. American crews earn far more than the near-slave labor on the foreign ships and 2. smaller ships means less economies of scale.

The union jobs are lost. They can’t be regained by docking the Delta Queen. The only way they’ll come back is if Congress renews the exemption and the boat is sold to new owners who will reinstate the unions.
Unfortunately, Oberstar, Inouye, and the unions are too damn dumb to figure that out.
