Yes, were he alive, Orwell would recognize this immediately.
Instead of waiting for Stephen Harper to get off his butt, Pres. Dubya should take the initiative by declaring all the members of the Canadian and Provincial “Human Rights Commissions” persona non grata and barring them for life from U.S. soil and territories.
That might put a crimp in their lifestyles and curb their enthusiasm.
I must be missing something, only in a very leftwing universe would I consider Maclean's rightwing.
This type of thing is already here in a relatively small way. It won’t be long before it is a much larger and more pervasive presence. Once the left increases its majorities in congress and takes the White House the courts will be packed with like-minded “jurists” and the race will be on.
Hate crime laws will proliferate and will be aimed specifically at stifling the so-called “religious right”. The whole homosexual agenda is aimed ultimately at rendering non-state approved religious expression a crime.
The “Fairness Doctrine” will be reenacted in some form or other with the sole purpose of muzzling opposition. The use of congressional investigation and special counsels will be aimed at criminalizing political opponents. People are going to go to jail for their beliefs if the left takes control of government. This is already happening in Europe and is gaining momentum in Canada. It will happen here.
This is happening more gradually than the first rise of fascism and Nazism in the 1920s-30s, but we will eventually face the same sorts of decisions: will we surrender, or will we fight?
Dalton Mc Guinty needs impeachment or worse. How about a go-around in his own Star Chambers for violation of “Human Rights” for his temerity to expand them in the first place.
“In the course of this last grim week, the Ontario government of Dalton McGuinty quietly announced a huge expansion of the Ontario Human Rights Commission, giving its apparatchiks enhanced powers of intrusion, removing the cap on fines, providing a new class of lawyers to assist in prosecutions, and opening 22 new hearing and mediation rooms around the province where these star chambers will conduct their quasi-legal proceedings.”
WOW!! This is frightening - worse than Chavez’s Venezuela! David Warren is a hero - we need to support him in any way we can. 1984 is around the corner!
