Many of those enhanced pensions went to senior commanders, including eight district chiefs who claimed injuries while filling in for deputy chiefs, mostly in desk jobs. They retired as deputy chiefs. One of them, John J. Ellard, acknowledged to the Globe in a January interview that he went on a previously scheduled golf trip to Ireland 15 days after he suffered a career-ending back injury during a fire. In the interview, Ellard said he played no golf on the trip. His annual tax-free pension is $89,532.

This is a great tradition in MA.
Imagine all of the people who went on the gravy train during the construction of the so-called “Big Dig.”
Why these people think they are entitled to free money at the expense of the taxpayer, well, one can only wonder.

Some I know years ago was on total disability yet would weekly toss a bowling ball down the alley like a pro.
I was working a job once that required a fire response. I was astounded afterwards as the crews openly bargained as to who would claim disability THIS time.
Another reason why 99.9% of all unions endorse Democrats. The Democrats not only encourage this type of behavior but expect it as a “perk” of the government job.
Civil Service pensions MUST be bought into the REAL world of the taxpayers..
The Civil Servants should not be insulated from the financial reality of SAVING for their retirement with dependency on their OWN savings and Social Security....
If these pensions are funded by their Union Dues and subsequent investment by their Unions - No problem.
BUT - if taxpayers are paying those pensions — a severe CHANGE IN IS ORDER.
Maybe he can get a private restroom and electric scooter at “Play Now.”
this is what we have come to expect from all or our public servants...outrageous pay, benefits and pensions.....
we had a cop here who claimed he became addicted to coccaine while undercover, and he was granted an early fat pension....we had another cop who suffered "stress" and so he was given a nice early pension...only thing is, his "stress" was because he was a full time cop going to law school in the evening....get it?......now, he has his cop pension and his law practice....
