On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: Im appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact. This may not have been a joke.
Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

Romney as Veep is up more than 9 points today at Intrade.
Go Mitt Go!
I can support the selection of Mitt Romney as VP. He’s not my first choice ... but there are certainly worse.
Romney made some policy decisions that I disagree with while in Massachusetts, but I honestly get the feeling that he is more conservative than his record would indicate.
He was governor of a very liberal state — it stands to reason that he would have to moderate his positions in order to accomplish even the most modest of conservative goals. It also stands to reason that the liberal bent of the electorate would necessarily push him to the left in order to represent his state.
McCain/Romney 2008 — it certainly isn’t a perfect ticket, but I think I can get on board.
H
Very impressive and it's a shame he's not on top of the ticket instead:-(
Only way that I can Vote for McQueeg is if Mitt is on the ticket.
Groan.
A phony, baby-killing-supporting liberal,,,,,,,,,,
Agreed. Romney would be a good shot in the arm to the McCain campaign, no doubt about it.
Hear hear! Mitt was my first choice too. Should provide a well-needed booster to McCain on the economic front.
Romney is energetic, articulate, smart and can debate rings around any prospective opponent. Too bad he’s not on the top of the ticket. Ah, such is life...
Looks like Mitt has got some new “lifelong principals that he has always held”. Not exactly sure what they are yet, but they’ll probably firm up as he determined what McCain wants.
I am applauding with my Mittens :)
Most agreed. Too bad so many realized all that, too late. : (
AGREED!
Romney should be seen as a potential cabinet appointee and if McCain is truly a ‘maverick’, he brings in someone who will generate some genuine excitement and interest in this campaign, Bobby Jindal.
A big part of him not winning were the open primaries. If the primaries had been strictly republican (which they should have been), Mitt probably wins in a landslide. Both the primaries & the general.
Works for me.
Who else is McCain courting for VP? Hopefully not Lieberman or Grahamnesty...
It is obvious why the truth was left out, right?
And yesterday, Romney's gay marriage order was extended to all Americans.
