Romney Makes His VP Case

Posted by Michael Scherer | Comments (41) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: “I’m appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact.” This may not have been a joke.

Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

[See video at link]

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

You're kidding, right? You don't have to look any further than this thread for the lies and wacky conspiracy theories. It is falsely claimed on this thread that all the conservative commentators who supported Romney were bribed to support him. One post falsely accuses Tancredo of being bought off and being a Judas because he supported Romney.

McCain is not getting his message (what message he has) out,
whereas the media are slobbering over Osama Hussein 24/7/365!

McCain hasn’t made his case to us, much less shown that he
is presidential material. We know he is a hero...he’s got
to be the candidate now!

As soon as the housing market crashed and that photo I.D. for beer went into effect they vanished. I can attest to that.

Finally, an explanation for that. I was really wondering why I had to pull out the license every time I bought a 6-pack, even though I'm obvously well over 21. I was flattered at first!

Do you just know more about Mitt than they do. Did you research him more than they did. Did they not vet him properly?

It would be one thing if we were just talking a about one or two bedrock conservatives. But we're talking a whole bevy of them. Could they all be soooooo wrong about him.

Would they really be willing to potentially put their careers, honor, & credibility on the line by leading so many astray? Or perhaps do they know more than what you give them credit for? Maybe more than you do?

I don’t support anarchy. I support the Constitution. When judges DISOBEY the written law, they are supporting anarchy.

"John Adams was a lunatic?"

Well now. That was REALLY back in the day. You had to go back over 200 years for THAT one.

:^) I’ve seen more than one occasion where they are denied because the I.D. isn’t valid. Pisses em’ right off. (And yes that was the reason, good catch ).

The context is Romney and the intent is to paint all opposition to him as being of that nature. Like all things there is some truth and some fiction, but in the end there are serious concerns about Mitt Romney that have not been addressed in a straight forward fashion, by the same people who paint all such opposition, be it fanciful or not, as being from us “lunatics”...

Another thread that needs some truth to be delivered to it.”

Leave it to the true-blue ‘conservatives’ to go the extra mile to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.

Romney would have made a better *PRESIDENT* than Hillary, Obama or McCain.

Frankly, he was the above-and-beyond MOST QUALIFIED, CAPABLE LEADER in the whole field. The guy who turned around the Olmypics.

He will be a great VP pick. We might prefer a conservative favorite, but that bench is thin (I see Mike Pence and Gov Barbour and Sanford on it and that’s it) McCain could do a lot worse by us. Romney brings a fabulous fluency on economic matters that will enable a McCain/Romney ticket to give a double whammy to the Democrats on both national and economic security issues. That plus the help Romney will provide in MI, NV and in general is much-needed.

Litmus-test Republicans are aiming at the wrong target in going after him. He got high fiscal conservative scores and was the most culturally conservative Governor Massachusetts has had in 2 generations. Digging up the slime machine that went after him in the primaries and delivered to us a *less conservative nominee than he is* will only serve the purpose of dividing and harming the conservative cause.

Yup, they’ve turned Antioch into a border-town slum in under a decade. Large parts of this section of Nashville you cannot go with your family or visit unarmed. The police are nowhere near aggressive enough in combating the problems (another problem is that leftist federal judges hogtie localities from trying to aggressively combat the problems). Our former neighbors that still own the house screwed us when they moved out to tony Brentwood and put up their illegal employees in the house and it has been hell for the past year since they moved in. Worst neighbors ever. Had we known what they were planning, we’d have bought the house from them.
