Romney Makes His VP Case

Posted by Michael Scherer | Comments (41) | Permalink | Trackbacks (0) | Email This

On Monday night, at a fund-raiser in New Mexico, John McCain said this about his former mortal enemy, Mitt Romney: “I’m appreciative every time I see Mitt on television on my behalf. He does a better job for me than he did for himself as a matter of fact.” This may not have been a joke.

Yesterday, Romney sat down for an interview with CBS News. It is a striking interview, in part because Romney seems to be making the McCain argument better than McCain, or McCain's campaign. There is a clarity to the soundbites that McCain has mostly lacked, a clear line of attack against Obama's experience and McCain's plans. Add to that whatever fundraising burst Romney could provide as a VP candidate, as well as Romney's strength in key swing states like Michigan and Nevada, and it's not hard to see why McCain may end up with a running mate whose hand he didn't shake in the primaries.

[See video at link]

EXCEPT: Mitt says in the interview that McCain distinguishes himself from Obama on drilling in the Alaska National Wildlife Refuge. This is wrong, according to the latest McCain statements. Both McCain and Obama oppose drilling in ANWR.

Anyone who says a woman shouldn’t be able to vote is a lunatic.

Which is why you come up so short in all this.

You cited superficial traits as positives for *omney, I said they are no positives when the substance behind the mask is rotten to the core. Pardon me if I expect honest and truthful Conservatives to carry the banner for this party. I need not remind you that the day they stop doing so, this party is dead, there is then no substantive difference between the GOP and the Democrats, no reason to vote for the GOP at all. We can either continue to expect those high quality candidates, or we can “Whig” out.

Besides being a lunatic, they’re also disrespectful and accept only their views/opinions.

Mitt has strong credentials on the border.

Righhhht. Myth Romney invited criminal illegal aliens by the millions
to Massachusetts and hid them as workers on his Belmont sanctuary over YEARS (caught by the Boston Globe twice).

Then Myth Romney was caught using Duncan Hunter's fence
in a Romney campaign advt.

Myth Romney taking credit for Duncan Hunter's fence, in Romney's flier,
without attribution (the Romney way).

You confuse honesty and integrity vs. raw unbridled lust for power. Fred was drafted by the Conservative base. NOBODY asked Slick Willard to run.

Even if you’re drafted you still gotta show some kind of “want” for the office.

That you’re going to get things done.

Fred was always acting like he did not want to be there.

If McCain were to pick Jindahl, he’d be succeeded by Mitch Landrieu. At this point I’d prefer he stay in LA .. he will be on a national ticket before long at all. Let’s see what he can do in LA to clean up that’s state’s corrupt politics. IF anyone can do that, it’d be Jindahl

While I admire (to a degree) your stand, even Thompson has directed his supporters (me) to vote for McCain. You have nobody to support.

No one ever has the right to vote when Dictator fascist Romney is in charge.

RINO Romney, darling of the Democrats, surrounded by Sen. Kennedy and other beaming Democrats,
who admire their personally owned, trained, and docile, pandering RINO-Governor Romney
who delighted them as he installed his fascist-socialist HillaryCARE=RomneyCARE without allowing a single vote by a single citizen.

Sen. John Kerry to Don Imus on RomneyCARE=HillaryCARE: "I like this health care bill".

Sen. Hillary Clinton on RomneyCARE=HillaryCARE: "To come up with a bipartisan plan in this polarized environment is commendable."
