Seattle, Washington - The number of immigration violators deported from three Pacific Northwest states surged nearly 40 percent when compared to the same period last year, according to statistics released today by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
In the first nine months of fiscal year 2008 (Oct. 2007 through June 2008), ICE returned 7,345 illegal aliens to their home countries who had been living in Washington, Oregon and Alaska. During that same period last fiscal year, ICE removed 5,256. This years statistics reflect a 39 percent overall increase in the volume of deportations from the three-state area.
Of the more than 7,300 immigration violators deported since October 2007, 2,024 had prior criminal convictions in addition to being in the country illegally. That figure represents a 26 percent increase in the number of criminal alien deportations compared to last year.
ICE attributes the increase in deportations to the recent expansion of the Criminal Alien Program (CAP), which focuses on identifying criminal aliens incarcerated in federal, state and local facilities. Once a criminal alien is identified, ICE lodges an immigration detainer against the individual to ensure they are turned over to ICE for removal upon completion of their criminal sentence.
The increase in removals locally and nationally underscores ICEs commitment to upholding our laws and preserving the integrity of our nations immigration system, said Neil Clark, field office director for ICE detention and removal operations in Seattle. As a country, we welcome law-abiding immigrants, but foreign nationals who violate our laws and commit crimes in our communities should be on notice that ICE is going to use all of the tools at its disposal to find you and send you home.
The local increase in removals mirrors a national trend. Nationwide, more than 234,000 people have been deported this fiscal year compared to about 210,000 at this time last year.
The removals are part of ICEs ongoing efforts to identify and arrest those who pose a threat to our community and who have no legal right to remain in the country. Those deported include convicted felons who have served time in local, county, state and federal prisons. Others were immigration fugitives who had been ordered removed by an immigration judge, but failed to comply with that order.
Yes, ICE and them all have been very busy up here. Word has gotten out about this, so many of them are returning to California or going back to Mexico.
Good news!
Self-repatriation... it’s the law!
This ICE move will help quite a bit. If we did this across the board, a few folks started losing assets and the like, we’d get back to ground zero rather quickly.
McCain must be beside himself! If this is happening on Bush’s watch, he deserves credit for it. It’s seven years late, but what the hey.
Good news
ICE you are my hero!!
If this were to happen across the nation, McCain would be naturalizing a burro and a spittoon next summer.
ICEs toll-free tip hotline 1-866-DHS-2-ICE
There is a rumor going around that ICE is looking at Hispanic congregation churches in heavily illegal areas.
Sounds like a good one to spread.
They are targeting individuals already incarcerated, so catch and release isn’t an option.
An election year deflection tactic to quell the citizenry IMO. If the numbers were in the high five or six digit range, I would be impressed.
Washington State, now how do you like those apples?
They’re even being smart and starting at the NORTHERN most part of the country.
Wow!
Yes, these do seem to be people who have been serving time.
You know what, even this an improvement. We were letting these folks back out to commit more crimes on our soil.
I don’t disagree, I am pointing out that an unspoken part of the problem is the judiciary; judges making arbitary decisions and also this releasing until court date.
Off the millions and millions of illegals, they get a few thousand, and that is a couple thousand more than last year. 40% is a meaningless number when you are talking about 0.01% of the total number of illegals. Actually, estimating 20 million illegals in the US, 7,500 = 0.00036%, a miniscule figure at best. Now if they were up 400% from last year, it might be closer to being worth talking about.
You (and I) want more along these lines.

Just start sweeping from the Canadian Border due south to the Mexican border....
I.C.E.....just doing the job the Libtards in Washington State won’t do....
Thank you. I agree with your points. I appreciate the additional thoughts.
“meaningless number”
Perhaps, but if the perception spreads that there is agood chance of being deported, maybe a much larger number will self deport!
