Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told Gwen Ifill of PBS" "The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer" that his rival for president, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has shifted on issues more than he has.
Obama has faced a torrent of stories about moving toward the middle for the general election, on issues ranging from gun control to Iraq policy.
Speaking in an interview to be aired tonight, he said in excerpts released by PBS:
"[I]f you compare sort of my shift in emphasis on issues that Ive been proposing for years, like say, faith-based initiatives, which have raised questions in the press, ... if you compare that to John McCains complete reversal on oil drilling, complete reversal on George Bushs tax cuts, complete reversal on immigration where he said he wouldnt even vote for his own bill, that I think is a pretty hard case to make that somehow Ive been shifting substantially relative to John McCain."
When Ifill pointed out that Obama's decision to reverse himself on accepting public financing for his fall campaign had "raised hackles in the press," Obama interjected: "Well, raised hackles amongst some in the blogosphere,"

Yeah, but your the one lucky enough to have the spotlight Obama.
Large difference between flip-flop and political adjustment. ;-)
So for Obama it’s the old, tell as big a lie as you can possibly make up trick, eh?
The shift is relative because the Obamachicken was afraid to cross the road to debate.
One could argue that McCain changed his position on oil drilling and the tax cuts as a result of a new set of facts. Sky high prices based on demand in the case of oil and economic growth from tax cuts and changed his mind.
Obama says one thing on Monday to one audience and something completely different on Wednesday to another audience. That is change that is convenient.
I agree.
Right.
It appears McCain never opposed the principle of tax cuts, rather he opposed the particular bill because it didn’t include lower spending.
Obama, on the other hand, is just making things up frantically.
Obama whinges like a five-year-old kid caught doing something wrong.
Yes. Maybe not taxes in my opinion, that’s a big flip flop. McCain hasn’t flipped an iota on amnesty/Z visas. They are just fighting over how they hide their positions.
Obama has done the biggest. He didn’t just flip on public financing, he previously made his embrace of it a central point of his campaign. He didn’t only say he would vote against Fisa, he said he would filibuster it. He didn’t only not wear the flag pin, he argued against its necessity.
He also does flip flops on his personal relationships, which I haven’t seen McCain do at all.
This pretending he said something he didn't say and erasing pages from his website to cover his tracks is really pathetic.
“Well, raised hackles amongst some in the blogosphere”
An arrogant five year old.
Obama-supporting bloggers, you are now thrown under the bus.
Hillary might pull it off after all.
Ok! Everybody read that again.
Barry is full of shift.
At any rate, McCain shifted his position in the correct direction. Kerry shifted his position against the troops and against aiding Iraq, that is why Kerry lost.
What is this, fourth grade?
Obama: “He started it!”
