SYDNEY (Reuters) - An Australian man convicted of his seventh drink-driving charge was spending about A$1,000 (487 pounds) a week on beer -- enough to buy more than 2,500 small bottles a month, a newspaper said on Tuesday.
The heartbroken construction worker began drowning his sorrows after breaking up with his partner five years ago, the Northern Territory News said, quoting his defence lawyer as telling a court in Australia's remote, tropical north.
The magistrate declined to jail the father of four, Michael Leary, noting he had quit drinking since his latest arrest, but he banned Leary from buying or even holding a beer for 12 months.
The magistrate also poked fun at Leary's favourite beer, Melbourne Bitter, in a part of the country where drinkers can be as loyal to beer brands as they are to football teams.

Ever bought a Fosters “Oil Can” ?
I’m wondering if that’s their idea of a “small beer”
This guy ain’t human!
Bigfoot? ET? Godzilla?
gets mighty lonely in the outback...
ROFLMAO !!!!!!!
I was wondering if his “partner” was two legged or four, but didn’t want to bring that up on a beer thread.
Holy guacamole... (hic!)
That’s one thirsty boy there...........
You ping me to a thread once in a blue moon and then it is about some poor Bloke supporting the beer industry in his beloved country?
There are better ways to commit suicide.
If I thought I had to vote for either one of these two treacherous clowns running for POTUS, I might be so distraught as to attempt to drink 2500 beers a month. Since I have decided to vote, but check neither the box for the anti-war Democrat or the pro-war Democrat, I have been able to keep my alcohol consumption in check.
A small beer in AU is 4-5 ounces; surely this guy wasn’t drinking three gallons every day.
Sure they can. If they are young and healthy and fairly large they can drink ALOT.
BTW, your math is a bit off. 2500 bottles a month is only 83 bottles a day. At 5oz per, that’s 415 oz per day. Or 34.5 bottles of american 12 ouncers per day.
When I was in my early twenties, I could’ve done that in a day easy if I didn’t have to work. Well, maybe not easy, but I could’ve done it...and for more than one day in a row.
I remember back in my youth, when I went to a bar to get plowed, I would drink 72 oz per hour for four hours continuously.
I don’t know. We’ve had estimates of a “small beer” from 4 to 26 ounces. Three gallons may only bring him until noon.
And please don’t call me Shirley.
LOL
Oh, yeah? Can you name one?
I don't know.....

My god, during a really bad week I might put away three cases. This guy does that in less than a day. I got nothin’ on this guy in the race to epic liver failure.
“Can people actually do that?”
With years and years of practice they can. ;)
LOL... Ain’t no fun dying without a liver, kidneys and heart. You don’t die drunk and happy; you die sober and in agony. I think I’d rather go almost any other way!
Beats a bed in a hospital.

The guy needed a keggerator real bad.
