SYDNEY (Reuters) - An Australian man convicted of his seventh drink-driving charge was spending about A$1,000 (487 pounds) a week on beer -- enough to buy more than 2,500 small bottles a month, a newspaper said on Tuesday.
The heartbroken construction worker began drowning his sorrows after breaking up with his partner five years ago, the Northern Territory News said, quoting his defence lawyer as telling a court in Australia's remote, tropical north.
The magistrate declined to jail the father of four, Michael Leary, noting he had quit drinking since his latest arrest, but he banned Leary from buying or even holding a beer for 12 months.
The magistrate also poked fun at Leary's favourite beer, Melbourne Bitter, in a part of the country where drinkers can be as loyal to beer brands as they are to football teams.

I don’t see a problem here.
I’m not a bitter guy, it must be really good. damn.
Hey, he kept it under 100 beers a day. I don't see a problem.
There was never enough time for him to say "Hold mah beeer"
83 "small" bottles a day. Five bottles an hour, 16 hours a day.
He wasn't trying to drown his sorrows, he was trying to pickle 'em.
100 beers a day ping
He’ll probably weigh 487 pounds when all is said and done.
They never said he was drinking 2500 bottles a month. Just that he was spending that much money. He could’ve been buying expensive beer. If he was, maybe that only amounted to 30 or so beers a day.
I’ve heard stories about how high the taxes are on beer in canada. Maybe it’s the same in australia.
All I can say is, 24 bottles in a case, 24 hours in a day. Coincidence? I think not.

Bitter Beer Ping
Some math. Assume a ‘small beer’ is the 7 ounce pony pack size. Also assume the beer is 3.2 % alcohol. Then
2500 ‘small beers’/month =
83 ‘small beers’/day =
581 ounces/day =
18.6 ounces of alcohol/day every day
WOW!
Baloney. He drank that much beer because he likes to get totally ripped. Drowning sorrow is a false excuse made up by drunks that too many people are willing to buy.
So, he was drinking approximately a bit less than two cases of 12 oz beers per day.
Can people acutally do that?
Maybe some of our Aussie FRiends can educate us on this.

Good Lord!
The man’s kidneys and liver are inhuman!
If the picture in your post is correct (375 mL = 12 oz), he is downing 31.9 ounces/day (at 3.2%). If the content is, say 5%, he is downing 49.8 ounces per day. Again, WOW!
