Six men remain in the Scott County jail following what police call a brutal assault on a father trying to protect his daughter.
Shakopee police say as the crowd was leaving Valleyfair Amusement Park around midnight on the 4th of July, the victim's daughter was confronted by two men.
"The 12-year-old daughter was either touched or slapped in the buttocks area," Scott County Attorney Patrick Ciliberto said. "The father confronted (the men) by yelling at them for what they had done to his daughter," he added.
Police say the two men called their friends, who were also in the park. The group of seven men and a juvenile then confronted the father.
"They beat him to the ground and then, the evidence that we have, when he was on the ground, they used their feet on him. They were kicking him in the face when he was down," Ciliberto said.
According to the criminal complaints, the men were stomping on the 41-year-old father as he lay on the ground, unconscious.
He suffered severe head injuries, including a fractured right orbital bone and possible subdural bleeding on the brain. "We don't know if there are permanent injuries yet," the County Attorney said.
Shakopee Police found the suspects in the parking lot. Seven of them were arrested and one man ran from the scene and police are still looking for him. Of the seven taken into custody, one was a 14-year-old.
The six adults charged and held in jail are Devondre Evans-Lewis, Andrew Shannon, Darris Evans, Terry Arnold, Derry Evans, and Anthony Gildersleeve.
The Scott County Attorney says several of the men have criminal histories and they are all from the Twin Cities metro area. They range in age from 18 to 22-years-old.
All six adults have been charged with 3rd degree felony assault causing substantial bodily harm.
I was wondering why no photo but looking at the names I've decided we really don't need a photo. DEVONDRE,DARRIS, DERRY.....
Yeah, poor guys. Probably didn’t have fathers in the home, if there was a home.
You’re probably right, the numbers weren’t good for the dad unless he was armed. 230 gr lead in the form of a .451” projectile in the chest of one of the disaffected yutes and the rest would have scattered like rats.
You write: “Trying to be a hero in front of his kid almost cost him his life.”
Ya, better to let his 12 year old girl get molested and carry that with her for the rest of her life than risk your life for your kids, eh?
Man, it takes all kinds and you are some kind of ........
Probably get a lib judge and get a smack on their hands.
6 on 1. Yeah, some tough scum there.
bull$hit! This thread is showing the true colors and thought processes of some of the Freepers that give FR a bad name.

“Sounds like the Dad wrote a check with his mouth that his butt couldnt cash. While I agree that the assault was unwarranted, the first order of business was to get his family to safety, not start an argument with the thugs. Trying to be a hero in front of his kid almost cost him his life.”
I dunno, say your 12 year old daughter has her behind grabbed by a pair of thugs, wouldn’t you yell at them to get their hands off her? The two then called their buds over and only then went after the father (this is usually how pack animals work anyway). I didn’t get the impression at all that dad was going after the two.
My only take on it is this guy was trying to be a protective father. That’s what good dads do.
courage as well as stupidity comes in numbers. I have seen groups of teenage boys acting up or smarting off and my response is always “I’d have more respect for you if you said that to me while you were alone.” At 245 lbs and my high and tight haircut I dont get many people disrespecting me.
I agree completely with you, color SHOULDN’T matter.
I was pointing out that if the races were white on black then Sharpton and Jackson would be there on the first flight to bring national attention to it, and demanding that hate crimes be tacked on to the assault charges.
If the victim was black or white it won’t matter if the perps were black.
Do I believe there is a double standard at play?
Yes.
If the perps were white it would make a huge difference to the national media and the camera whores like Sharpton who call them for face time.
complete bullshiz
Ah yes.....our lovely multicultural, diverse society.....
Full of more than enough assholes and murderous lunatics that our justice system and society won’t step up and address in the manner they so righteously deserve.....
On the spot execution......conducted by citizens.
An armed society is a polite society...
Some folks like these feral animals traveling in packs — respect only superior force and undesirable consequences.
Jesse is that YOU?
It’s so easy. Could do all of those perps in about 10 minutes.
Yeah right, peddle it elsewhere. I live in the real world, I see double standards at play when it comes to race and crime every day.
To get to DU, you were supposed to take a left turn back there. You really don’t belong here.
Unfortunately you are correct. The color of the victims and perps does matter due to race hustlers and their supporters.
The hypocrisy of this knee jerk reaction by some to always see race is:
1) If the color of the perps was white. It would immediately be classified as a racial event.
2) If the color of perps was black, then you are racist for assuming it was a hate crime.
That constant reliance on the ‘race card’ perplexes most folks and halts most meaningful discussions on race. JMHO.
I’m sorry, brwnsuga, but Abathar has a point.
The media would go into convulsions if the races were reversed and the story would be prominent on all national newscasts. Jesse and/or Al would make an appearance decrying injustice or whatever, and the white guilt lefties would pound their chests and weep their oblations on our racist nation.
But, since the perps are black, this is not even a news story. As far as the media is concerened, this may as well have never happened.
