(CNSNews.com) – While speaking Sunday at the national convention of the National Council of La Raza, a Latino advocacy group that favors a “pathway to citizenship” for illegal aliens, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama said federal immigration agents “terrorized” and divided families during immigration raids.
“The system isn't working,” said Obama, “when 12 million people live in hiding, and hundreds of thousands cross our borders illegally each year; when companies hire undocumented immigrants instead of legal citizens to avoid paying overtime or to avoid a union; when communities are terrorized by ICE immigration raids; when nursing mothers are torn from their babies; when children come home from school to find their parents missing; when people are detained without access to legal counsel.”
But Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are not out to terrorize anyone, ICE spokeswoman Pat Reilly told Cybercast News Service, while stressing that she was not speaking about the comments of any individual, but only in general terms regarding criticism of ICE.
“Raids”– a term Reilly said she does not like – are not random, she said, but are operations that are always ordered by a federal judge or federal prosecutor through a warrant.

Step one: Fix this by guarding the border - hundreds of thousands cross our borders illegally each year
Step two: Fix this by punishing employers of illegals - when companies hire undocumented immigrants instead of legal citizens to avoid paying overtime or to avoid a union;
Then you have a huge reduction in the other problems. Ignoring the border and granting amnesty to those already here isn't a solution. It is just kicking the problem down to the next generation when it will be much worse as was done in the failed 1986 immigration law.
Does this also mean that the DEA and other federal agencies TERRORIZE neighborhoods when they do drug raids. You break the law it should terrorize you when the fed comes.
Obama, you idiot ... You cannot have both a welfare state and open borders at the same time. The U.S.A. will be overrun with tens of millions of illegals from all over the world during your administration, essentially overthrowing the rule of law and established order. Of course, some say this is Obama’s intent.
Maybe after Obama bombs Pakistan, he’ll bomb ICE facilities in Texas.

This is really irresponsible rhetoric. If he wants to criticize enforcement policy, that’s fine, but saying that law enforcement enforcing laws on the books are “terrorizing”, i.e., equating them to lawless terrorists, is simply reprehensible and should not be the words any respectable politician should utter.

Well said, TKDietz. But let’s add some serious prison time and or fines for the employers hiring and keeping illegals on the job. Without them, the illegal problem would disappear rather quickly. Tell medium sized employers like this one that all owners/corporate officers/board menbers will serve one month in prison for each illegal caught in their employ and the hiring process would suddenly be taken quite seriously. No more of the nonsense about being fooled by a SS card when the owner can’t speak a word of english.

This is a simple truth that seems not to have occurred to many of the people opposed to tougher immigration enforcement.
We have finite resources to take care of our own needy citizens with. We simply cannot allow everyone on the planet to come in here and use those up.
I just spoke to a lady and her three children today who are planning on going to Mexico because her husband is being deported. Two of the children were born here. Their 12 year old son came here at 3 months old and has no recollection of Mexico. The father has been charged with a felony offense for using someone else's name on documents to work. He's in jail with a high bond and an ICE hold, and will probably stay in jail for a couple more months while his case is being worked out. Then he's gone to Mexico and will likely not be allowed to return. Most likely he'd be facing prison time if he sneaks back in. He's never been in trouble before and really does not like it at all in jail. His wife is making arrangements now for them to have a place to live in Mexico. They haven't been there in 12 years. One man is being deported. Four are “self deporting” because of it.
The government isn't really going to go after all these employers though. They'll do a few very public cases, but these politicians are not going to alienate their campaign contributors by really going after employers. In my area the poultry plants recruited all sorts of aliens, packed every chicken plant with illegals. They were promising these people jobs in Mexico, helping them come over and in many cases helping them get false documentation to work. People like Don Tyson of Tyson Foods were in this up to their eyeballs. We gonna start seeing people from the Tyson family going to prison? Hell no. Won't happen. They'll make sacrificial lambs out of people like that Mexican roofer who hired a bunch of illegals there was an article about a couple of days ago. They'll make a few very public raids of factories where no one will really get in a lot of trouble, and things will go on as usual.
