Here’s the numbers on oil spills in the ocean: 1100 barrels of of oil have spilled into the ocean between 2000-2004.
To give you an idea of what that is: more oil seeps into the ocean naturally than the oil spillage of all of the oil companies combined!!!!
Republican politicians should stop refering to it as ANWR or as having 10 billion barrels of oil. They should say "We have 1.45 trillion dollars worth of oil sitting in Alaska, which both Democrats and Republicans have been wisely declaring as off-limits for decades, until a time when global oil supplies started to become scarce. Clearly, prices are going up because demand is increasing, but supply is not. Therefore, now is the time to take advantage of the wisdom of our predecessors.".
It lets Congress to claim that they have half a brain, and possibly would increase their 9% approval rating.
It reaches across party lines, and can wear the badge of "bipartisanship" proudly.
It allows the Dems to save face and avoid getting blamed for $5/gallon gas.
It lets Republicans help their e-e-e-e-evil friends in Big Oil.
It reins in the speculation market (who until now had ZERO reason to expect supplies to increase), and instantly drops prices.
Seems like an all-around winner to me!
Absolutely agree on all points. Without a crystal ball the idea of drilling new areas which most likely are more costly wasn’t on the corporate room drawing board. Seismic surveys should have been done back then so that we’d know exactly what we are dealing with today, but the same problem existed back than as now and that is the environmentalists. It would be hard to convince oil companies to fight them back then with crude oil selling so low.
Jeeze, I hope those guys aren’t doing the drilling! LOL!

I have called my senators and congressman. Can we call other states? If so, I am going to hit the most liberal states first.
Contact your Congress critters to let them know that you are tired of high gas prices.
Bushs legacy is secure. Great scotus appointments, pro-energy, pro wot and disarming most of the axis of evil.
It seems like states rights only mean anything to the congress when it benefits them and allows them to slink out of a problem.
Trust me...the Dems will be glad if this card goes away by election time.

It might be interesting to note the effect of lifting the ban on offshore drilling on the NYMEX crude price. $144.52 down 56 cents. This compares with the instantaneous drop of anywhere from $20 to $50 predicted by some.

In other words, their insides will be on display for everyone to see!
