For some, Republican John McCain is 'too old'

WASHINGTON — So how old is John McCain? Six-packs, automatic transmissions and the American Express card were all introduced after he was born, not to mention computers which McCain admits he doesn't use.

McCain, himself, jokes that he's older than dirt. And while his age is being raised as a campaign issue, medical experts say voters shouldn't be concerned that, if elected, McCain would be the oldest man to assume the presidency, at 72.

In politics and other fields, they explain, it's not unusual for talented people to do signature work late in life, when they can apply the cumulative wisdom of experience, and leverage personal connections cultivated over time.

Nonetheless, a significant slice of the electorate has qualms about McCain's age. The presumed Republican nominee will celebrate his 72nd birthday shortly before his party's convention. Polls show the age question isn't going away, despite the Arizona senator's efforts to deflect it with self-deprecating humor, or disprove it by keeping a grueling schedule.

"Sure, people live to be 90, but you are not as sharp," said Virginia Bailey, 73, a retired administrative assistant who lives near Schenectady, N.Y., and is a Republican. "I'm not as sharp as I was ten years ago, and I'm sure (McCain) isn't either - even though he wouldn't admit it."

“not to mention computers which McCain admits he doesn’t use.”

If he did, he might not like what he see.

He’s too old so I think I’ll vote for a Marxist. Yeah, that makes sense.

It’s not his age, it’s his liberalism. I don’t like liberals...at all. They’re going to get us all broke and killed.

Donald Rumsfeld doesn’t use email either, neither did Louis Freed.

For the same reason, no doubt.

WASHINGTON — So how much did cocaine damage Barack Obama’s brain? 57 states, 10,000 tornado deaths in Kansas, Afghanis speaking Arabic....

Worse case scenario, better a dottering old out-of-touch RINO than a radical socialst revolutionary Marxist . History has had enough of them.

Very sad that such an article does not recognize the importance of experience and wisdom.

And it's the policies that matter. Gee, Obama is younger so I think I'll lose the war, coddle our enemies, welcome unrestricted abortion, raise taxes, etc. /s

Not a McCain guy by any stretch, but am I otherwise supposed to vote for some greenhorn Marxist ideologue? You think Pelosi and Reid are bad now?

McCain is older than we thought.

The automatic transmission was invented in 1904.

Yet we heard nothing like this when Nelson Mandela became president of South Africa at age 76. He is almost 90 now and still active, and people hang on every word he says. McCain is only 2 years older that Reagan was when he took office.

My father is 88 and still going strong. He retired as a physician at 65 but could easily have kept working through his 70s.

Clint Eastwood is on top of his game at 78...

The current Pope seems to be doing a good job at 81...

Jack McKeon won the World Series at 72...

Sounds like ageism to me. Isn't that as bad as racism?

I think it’s his appearance more than his age.

Unlike Reagan and Rumsfeld, McCain is just very hard to look at.

For some, Republican John McCain is 'too old'

For most, Democrat Barak Obama is 'too socialist'.

Post from the spring primaries:

This is the best the GOP has to offer?

The video at the link below shows McCain as a tottering old guy who stammers and makes significant misstatements even in this short speech.

In politics, one misstatement or misstep can ruin a career. A Lazio encroachment. A Deaniac scream. An Allen macaca moment.

McCain made 2 slip-ups in this single video. He stumbles on the word dispirited and then replaces it with spirited. Then, he stumbles by calling himself a conservative liberal Republican and replaces it with conservative Republican.

Then, McCain ended this short speech by vowing to continue to infringe on and quell First Amendment rights, when he says that 527's should be outlawed.

This is who the GOP is sending to challenge Obama??????

McCain a 'Proud Liberal'? (Video)

Watch this Must See video and then visualize this guy going up against Obama in a series of debates (or debacles).
